Wakefield activated: Drew placed on 15-day DL

Posted by Michael Vega, Globe Staff August 26, 2008 06:49 PM

NEW YORK -- The Sox announced before tonight's game that RHP Tim Wakefield had been activated, which really was nothing more than a formality.

In what also was a fait accompli, the Sox placed outfielder J.D. Drew (lower back strain) on the 15-day disabled list. Manager Terry Francona hinted as much when he reported during his pregame news conference that Drew had visited with a spine specialist in New York this morning and that, "we still have some talking to do with [Drew]."
