Yanks to place Joba on disabled list
According to Tyler Kepner of the New York Times, Yankees starter Joba Chamberlain will be placed on the disabled list today. From the Bats blog at NYTimes.com:
There is still no word from the Yankees on the exact nature of Joba Chamberlain’s shoulder injury or the findings of Dr. James Andrews. But I can tell you for certain that Chamberlain will be placed on the disabled list today. Reliever Chris Britton will be recalled from Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre for his sixth tour of duty, with Ian Kennedy to start for Chamberlain this weekend. The Chamberlain injury could be the knockout blow for the Yankees. Boston has its problems and Tampa Bay is untested. But it’s really amazing that the Yankees are contending at all, considering the injuries to Chien-Ming Wang, Phil Hughes, Jorge Posada, Hideki Matsui and now Chamberlain.

It's not amazing that the Yankees are contending, given their 220 million dollar payroll and their ability to give up very little to add Richie Sexson, Xavier Nady, Damasio Marte (who, admittedly, has not panned out so far), and Pudge. Every other team who has added players of that caliber had to give up B or A prospects. New York gave up Kyle Farnsworth and practically nothing else. Nady is an improvement over Matsui; Pudge is an upgrade over an injured Posada; neither Hughes nor Kennedy were succeeding in their second go-around (that is the real reason they are still in the minors); the only player of note the Yankees have not been able to replace is Wang. In contrast, Boston lost Big Papi's bat for almost two months and Schilling for a year. NY is neither a tragic nor a feel good story.
This was written just as the Rays scored 6 in the bottom of the ninth for a walk-off win against the Indians.
Maybe we are worried about the wrong team?
who Cares. Go Sox, catch and destroy the Rays. Let's go back to back this season.
not enough bad things can happen to that lot, notice how in his lists of complaints he didnt mention jeter getting old in front of them. now all we need is rivera's back to start flaring up and I will have had a great week
joba drools
So sorry....
If it weren't for bad luck, the Yankees would have no luck. As a Sox fan, I am loving every minute of it. I would actually feel bad for Joba if it were not for the fact that he is determined to end Kevin Youlilis' career. What goes around comes around Joba...
Excuses, excuses ... every team has had their share of injuries including the Red Sox. The Yankees are old & everyone knew their pitching was weak back in April. It's not injuries, the Yankees just suck.
People talk about the impact on the Yankees of all their players on the disabled list this year -- Matsui, Hughes, Posada, now Chamberlain, and others -- but don't acknowledge the Red Sox many losses to the DL -- Schilling - season, Beckett, Matsuzaka, Colon, Timlin - twice, Buchholz, Ortiz, Lowell, Lugo, Cora, Casey, and Moss. Most teams have big player losses during the season. They all have to adjust and compete.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA NY
Joba on the disabled list? Good! Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. I've never wished injury on any athlete, however Joba is a "punk" who I despise and I hope never plays again in MLB.
He probably threw his shoulder out throwing all those fast balls at Youk’s head.
Who says they're contending? They're 6 1/2 games out of first and haven't been a serious threat all year. They're old and injured.
Not for anything, we are not a serious threat anymore either. With Manny gone, we are done. The teams to beat are Tampa and CA. It's not gonna happen for us this year. Those two teams have a desire to win, you can tell the way they play. They have momentum. We don't and the Yankees don't.
