Yaz resting after surgery
STATEMENT FROM THE FAMILY OF CARL YASTRZEMSKI
BOSTON, MA-- Carl Yastrzemski arrived at Massachusetts General Hospital on Monday after experiencing chest discomfort. After numerous tests and evaluations, it was determined that he needed triple bypass surgery which was performed this afternoon. The surgery was a complete success and he is resting comfortably. We are most grateful for all of the prayers and support we have received.

Bless Yaz and his family. Our prayers go out to them.
Wishing you a speedy and complete recovery, Yaz - be back to throw the 2009 opening day pitch!
Yaz gave his heart and soul to the Red Sox Organization. A true leader and team player . He was treated well by the organization, and he will continue to be a Boston legend.Get well soon! It's too bad other players like Manny never gave his heart & soul to his organization that treated him with respect and dignity.
Thoughts and prayers are with the Yastrzemski family. Get well soon.
This news ruined my day. Yaz was my hero growing up in the 70s. I was probably the only kid in the Midwest who could pronounce his name and spell it, too. God speed, Yaz. Get well soon.
Get well soon, Yaz!
God speed Yaz's recovery. As my only true boyhood idol and hero, Yaz meant everything to me growing up in New England. Prayers for him his family and to all who have loved ones in need. -Maz from Tampa/Boston.
Yaz, Like so many middle-aged New Englanders, 1967 was a coming of age for me in many ways. I will never forget that "Impossible Dream" team and how you carried the Sox by wont of your shear determination, skill and will to win. You captured generations of Red Sox fans and I, like legions of others, believe that team, particularly you, are the reason that Red Sox Nation exists today. We all owe you a tremendous debt of gratitude for teaching us that the seemingly impossible is possible. Get well soon.
Still 'clearing' the paths with a triple, though my bet would have been Yaz doing his usual and touching 'em all with a four-bagger. ; )
His performance against the A's in the '75 playoffs, both in left field and at the plate, is still the best I've ever seen.
Get well soon, Captain, and God bless.
Growing up in the heart of bensonhurst brooklyn and in the heart of Yankee country Yaz was and is today my hero. Thru the years starting from the 70"s till today I have collected plenty of items of Yaz. But my greatest moment came when I had the chance to see him at Foxwoods for a Red Sox reunion where I was able not only to get his autograph but most important take a photo with him. All thru my playing days I was proud to wear his number 8 on all my uniforms. Get well soon and may God bless you. Also my e-mail has his name and number that is what Yaz has meant to me. Happy birthday on Firday and many more.
God bless Yaz and the family. Better days ahead. Looking back, I'm so thrilled when I think back at how wonderful Carl played THE GAME. And how grateful I am about how kind and gracious Yaz was giving me an autograph at the minor league complex at Ft. Myers. Rest and get better, Carl and family.
Wishing you a speedy recovery, Yaz. You've been a wonderful part of the Boston Red Sox for my family and for all Red Sox fans. I pray for you and your family at this time.
Greatest Red Sox ever - and always a gentlemen. God bless you Yaz, and may you have a speedy recovery.

Yaz,
I was your paperboy in '68. You were my baseball idol then and you still are. Get well soon. MGH and HOF, two good places.
Get well soon Yaz, hope your out for your birthday, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family
Yaz, you have overcome every challenge that has ever come your way. I know you'll get through this one as well. All of New England is (as am I) praying for you. Keep strong you tough SOB!
The grit and tenacity that you played with has taken me through my entire life. I started working in the shipping room in a downtown Boston store and worked my way up to the highest grossing salesperson in the history of the 200+ year company. Thank you for impressing upon me the value of work ethics and never giving in to anything.
I owe you. If there is anything that I can do to repay to you what I learned from you, I am an email away.
God Bless,
Jerry J. Nolan
We will always love you Yaz! Those of us that were just kids in 67 will never forget what our greatest hero gave us. I still dream of listening to the games on the radio and the excitement of our Yaz coming to the plate when!

Love ya, Yaz.
If only we could relive 1967.
When I was a kid Yaz was Elvis........My hero get well soon
Yaz,
You became my hero in 1967 when I was in college in Boston. I was there in the bleachers for the last 2 games of 1967 against the Twins. We know you are the first American boy who played Little League to go into the Hall of Fame. Your photos adorn my home and my office here in San Francisco, Fenway West. I saw you play on your birthday in Oakland many times, even sent you a birthday cake once, and came to your last game. You represent the very best of baseball and the Red Sox. Turn this triple bypass into another home run. No one has gotten the Triple Crown since you did it 41 years ago. My best - Michael
May you have a speedy recovery Yaz my prayers are with you and your family.
"Thank you, Mr. Yastrzemski " was what I said 25 years ago at Arlington Stadium when # 8 signed a 1960 Topps card and his autobiography when the Sox made a trip thru Texas. It was his last time to play there and he signed for about 20 minutes through some damp conditions. Extremely classy player.
Like many other kids that rooted for the Sox in the 70's, I idolized Yaz - wore # 8, tried to hit left-handed with the bat a little too high and played left field. At my house growing up, August 22 was a holiday because it's his birthday.
Thanks again, Mr. Yastrzemski. God Bless and Get Well Soon!.
Captain, Godspeed.
When I was six it was all things YAZ!!! Tackle this like a high inside fastball....its outta heah!!!!!!
Peace and Godspeed.
WE LOVE YOU YAZ! GET WELL SOON!

Dear Yaz,
Glad to hear you are doing well in the Hospital after surgery, which I was stunned to hear about.
You helped me get through my 18 operations and many years at Newington Children's Hospital. I was in the hospital for all of 1967, and the nurses let me listen to the games (as long as I kept the volumn down).
It was real tough every time you hit a home run, had a key base hit or made a fantastic catch, for me to keep my support of you quiet!! YOU PULLED ME THROUGH those tough days!!
I received a baseball from you in 1968, that I still have proudly displayed on my bookcase to this day, which says: "To Tommy, Best Wishes, Carl Yastrzemski"
Get better fast and hope you are back home real quickly.
Sincerely,
Tom Wieliczka

Yaz -
As a kid who loved baseball I began following your career in 1967. Every day I studied the stats in the newspaper sports section to read the box scores for the baseball games. I saved the Red Sox box to read last so that I could shout out to my family, "YAZ HIT ANOTHER HOMERUN!"
You are an inspiration to other ball players and a hero to those of us who played the game on dusty diamonds years ago. I wish you Godspeed in a quick and complete recovery. Life has thrown you a curveball Yaz, hit it out of the park.
Hello Yaz, best wishes for a speedy recovery. We were shocked to hear about you being in the hospital. You are my husband's idol from way back and I have an autographed ball from you when your son, God rest his soul, was friends with my cousin Laura from Lynn, MA. many years ago. We look forward to seeing you at spring training as we did last year. Get well soon, you're the best!
Captain Carl,
Wishing you a speedy recovery. at the age of 11, I immigrated to Boston from Jamaica in 1972 and my landlord Mrs. Pasqual, introduce me to the game of baseball and the Red Sox. She gave me a glove, a ball, and a bat that once belonged to her grandson, which all had your name on them. I treasured them for many years until I out grew them and passed them on to a friend. Even though I was right handed, I tried in every way to immitate you. Even today, I still idolize you.
I am glad to hear you came through the operation well and like many fans here in Florida, I hope to see you at spring training. God Bless!!
