Beckett finishes five, Delcarmen in
While the Red Sox bullpen stirred, Josh Beckett plowed through the fifth inning and any expected estimate of what his pitch count might be. Reporters had been told no more than 70 pitches last week. Yesterday, Theo Epstein told Tony Massarotti that Beckett would throw between 55 and 60 pitches.
He threw 80. Beckett allowed four hits, walked none, struck out seven and showed very little signs of anything amiss with his right elbow. He's threw 49 strikes against 31 balls. Manny Delcarmen is jogging as the bottom of the sixth starts.
The Sox just scored another run when Coco Crisp's triple plated Jason Varitek. There's a couple of guys who weren't producing a whole lot of runs say, last month. And now another run on Jacoby Ellsbury's triple down the right field line -- that's back-to-back stand-up triples and a 7-0 Sox lead after the top of the sixth.
And the Rays lost. Pretty good night for the Sox right now.

Now that's sterling journalism; great attention to grammar, and excellent self-assessment of whether sentences and phrases make sense before hitting the 'Submit' button.
Before you get snarky, there were once people called 'editors' in the world of news reporting; now we have bloggers. Like McDonald's or Domino's, just because it's delivered quickly, it doesn't mean it's good.
This blogger might want to review your comment before posting it.
To top it off, the blogger gets to decide whether criticism of a piece by a reader should be viewed by other readers? Great respect being paid to the First Amendment here, I see.
From Adam: Thanks for the feedback, Mike. Sorry for the typos in the blog. They tend to sneak in during games, mostly, and I'll do my best to avoid them in future.
Also, we review comments only to avoid inapporpriate language and overly personal comments directed at other commenters. I can guarantee any free-of-cursing criticism directed toward a piece written here will be posted, unedited.
Thanks, Adam. I apppreiciate your candor; my grandfather was an editor @ the Globe.
