Byrd is watching
Paul Byrd's outing ended after he walked Nelson Cruz with two outs in the sixth, his second walk of the inning. Javier Lopez entered and struck out Chris Davis to quell the threat and keep Boston's lead at 7-0.
Byrd had his most effective start with the Red Sox in his fifth outing since joining the club Aug. 12, but he was also uncharacteristically wild, walking three Rangers and hitting another. He redeemed the walks by allowing only three hits, his lowest in any of his Sox starts.
Coco Crips remains on fire. He just roped a double to right in the top of the eighth.

See, if you had just left out the "is", "Byrd watching" with an opening graph beginning "...the Sox protect his lead" would have perfectly acceptable. And we all would have had that much more fun.
