Delcarmen pitches the eighth

Posted by Adam Kilgore, Globe Staff September 7, 2008 05:52 PM

Manny Delcarmen squandered the Red Sox shutout bid, allowing a solo home run to Taylor Teagarden on a 2-0 we're-up-seven-in-the-eighth-so-just-get-it-over-the-plate fastball. Delcarmen also allowed a double down the left field line by Ramon Vazquez and struck out the side. That was the first earned run Delcarmen has allowed since Aug. 24, a span of 8 1/3 innings. He had only surrendered one hit over that span as well.

It's 7-1 Red Sox, three more outs to go. Time to start thinking about Tampa Bay.
