Jays up early

Posted by Julian Benbow, Globe Staff September 13, 2008 12:40 PM

Vernon Wells put the Jays up early with a RBI double that scored Joe Inglett from first. Coco Crisp almost made a highlight-reel catch, but his diving attempt came up empty and the ball rolled into left.

Otherwise, it was a pretty quiet inning for Sox starter Paul Byrd, who's been pretty solid since coming over, winning four of his five starts, gobbling up 33 innings since his debut Aug. 16 (more than Dice-K and Jon Lester over the same time frame).

Ellsbury led off the Sox half of the first with a single to left-center.

Jays 1, Sox 0

  1. Ortiz and Lowell strike out with tying run at third - pathetic.
