Lester honored
If Jon Lester's October is as successful as his September has been so far, the Red Sox could be in for a fun postseason ride.
The 24-year-old lefthander this afternoon was named the American League Pitcher of the Month for September. Lester went 4-1 with a 2.14 ERA and 28 strikeouts in five starts this month. In 33 2/3 innings, allowed eight earned runs on 26 hits and 13 walks.
It is the second time this season (and in his career) that Lester has won the honor, the first coming in July, when he was 3-0 with a 2.05 ERA.
Lester, who will start Game 1 of the ALDS at Anaheim Wednesday night, finished the regular season with a 16-6 record and a 3.21 ERA.
He collected 152 strikeouts in 210 1/3 innings pitched, including two complete-game shutouts, one of which was his no-hitter at Fenway Park May 19th against the Kansas City Royals.

Stating the obvious: this team would be nowhere this season without Lester. Such an incredible competitor. Been fun to watch him succeed.
and he did not make the all star game with Francona as the manager. sad.
Congrats to Lester!!!! He deserves it and his emergence as another ace of the staff has been one of the best stories of this season. He deserves to be on the mound for Game 1 and I believe he will lead the Sox to a win on Wednesday night. Go Jon Lester and Go Red Sox!!!!!
TONY: MANNY IS A BIG CRY BABY - GOT HIS $20,000,000 PER YEAR
AND THEN COASTED FOR THE LAST TWO YEARS. HE IS A GREAT
HITTER - EVEN IN THE CLUTCH.
BUT, THERE IS MORE TO IT THAN JUST HITTING - THANK GOD FOR THE
LEFT FIELD WALL - HE IS A TERRIBLE OUTFIELDER. MANY BALLS HE
SHOULD HAVE CAUGHT. OH, WELL NOW IT IS JASON BAY, WHO CAN HIT
FIELD, RUN THE BASES - WE ARE LUCKY TO HAVE HIM.
Jon Lester deserves every accolade that he’s given.... Great to see him and all of the other “rookies” succeed. Congratulations, good luck and lots of success.
