Also, the Red Sox have called up C George Kottaras and 1B Chris Carter from Pawtucket, and added them to the team's 40-man roster. (EDIT: As several astute readers pointed out, Carter and Kottaras were already on the 40-man roster and were simply recalled from Pawtucket. Apologies for the fouled-up wording.)

Just to clarify, Kottaras and Carter were already on the 40 man roster so no counter moves were needed, they were added to the active roster today.
According to soxprospects.com Kottaras was added to 40-man roster Sept. 06, and Chris Carter was added Sept. 07. Carter has already appeared in a game for the Red Sox this season.
With Drew out, other guys being day-to-day, and the acquisition of Kotsay, the lineup is different every day. Some more details about each day's lineup would be very much appreciated.
Why isn't Ellsbury starting? Nursing an injury or is Tito going with matchups against the Rays pitcher?
My guess is Ellsbury is losing time to alternatives that are performing better -- Crisp & Kotsay. The fact is, buried under the team's success thus far, Ellsbury has been a major disappointment. Maybe it's all from the wrist injury earlier, but a .260 BA average isn't going to excite many people.
Just to clarify Brian's comment. The two were added to the 40 man roster before those dates this season.
Kottaras was added in September 2006 when aquired from San Diego for David Wells and Carter in 2007 when aquired for Wily Mo Pena.
