A few quick notes from the Red Sox clubhouse, where Sunday morning today meant some soothing tunes from Milli Vanilli and Amy Winehouse, among others. (While we’re on music, allow Extra Bases to humbly recommend checking out Fleet Foxes, a melodic acoustic group from Seattle that writes some seriously beautiful songs.):
-Julio Lugo felt “a little tender” today, manager Terry Francona said. He’s still attempting to come back from the strained quadriceps muscle he hurt in Toronto back before the all-star break. “His availability is certainly in question,” Francona said. “He keeps trying to get to that last little plateau and can’t quite get there.”
-Francona indicated there won’t be much adjusting to the Red Sox rotation during the final week of the regular season. “We have it set up how we have it set up for a reason,” Francona said. He said he doesn’t anticipate any changes in he rotation for the final week.
He also said the Sox will be more apt to throw a pitcher short innings during a start than change the day they pitch. Josh Beckett, for example, has two scheduled starts left, tomorrow and Saturday. It seems likely he’ll throw two or three innings Saturday in order to rest up for making the first start the playoffs.
-Nothing new to report on J.D. Drew or Mike Lowell.
