Lowell in, Youkilis still out

Posted by Chad Finn, Globe Staff September 5, 2008 04:37 PM

Tonight's lineups are in, and Mike Lowell is penciled in to the No. 6 spot, his first appearance since Aug. 12, when he suffered an oblique strain. Kevin Youkilis is out for a third straight game, so Mark Kotsay will start at first base and bat in Youkilis's customary cleanup spot.

  1. Why is Kotsay batting 4th? I thought Tito doesn't like two lefties in a row in the middle of the order. Why doesn't he put Bay in the 4 hole?

  1. Is Mike Lowell at third tonight, or Mark Kotsay? You have mentioned that both are will play third.

  1. Why would Tito move Dustin out of the cleanup spot? Bat Kotsay 2nd and keep Pedey on fire at #4!

  1. In my absence, I agree w/ Pedey4MVP and Mark and am not sure I understand why either Bay or Pedroia are not in the 4-hole. Kotsay is more of a two-hitter anyway - he batted leadoff or 2nd pretty much the whole time he was in Oakland. As for Bay not hitting 4, I can understand the first couple games after the Manny trade b/c Francona didn't want him unfairly compared to Manny, but which player looks more like a cleanup hitter to you:
    .288 26HR 93 RBI .371 OBP .515 SLG .886 OPS; or
    .292 6HR 44 RBI .343 OBP .433 SLG .776 OPS

    Are you kidding me?

  1. Texas has 1 left reliever with a 27.00 ERA so there's no threat of a lefty specialist entering the game tonight so splitting up the left handed hitters wasnt essential.
