Orsillo agrees to multi-year deal

Posted by Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff September 9, 2008 05:02 PM

Industry sources have confirmed that Don Orsillo has agreed to a four-year deal to remain as the Sox' play-by-play man on NESN. The deal runs through 2012.

The deal also allows Orsillo to broadcast for TBS in the postseason.

  1. This news [stinks] as does Orsillo. I don't know why the Sox hate Sean McDonough. He's 100 times better than Don.

  1. Now we have breaking news about commentators signing contracts? What is this existence coming to?

  1. Blah blah blah to the whiners. Best signing since Ortiz!

  1. Has anyone ever noticed that Don Orsillo actually sounds exactly like Sean McDonough? That must be why they hired him ...

  1. Sean and Jerry were great, though Sean could be too negative (a little negativity is okay). Don's good, and I was reminded, during the honoring of Jerry Remy earlier this year, how terrible Bob Kurtz was and it made me happy to have Don around.

Living out of state, and paying $150 a year to watch Red Sox games, I get to hear all the other announcing crews when the Red Sox are on the road. Don and Jerry are definitely in the top 5 in the league, and personally are my favorite. There are a lot of terrible announcing crews out there. Let's be thankful that it isn't ours.

  1. No other commentators have ever made me laugh more than Don & Jerry. Thank God the powers that be at NESN had the good sense to resign Don.
