Despite an absolutely sopping Fenway Park, where the rain has been coming down nonstop since about 10 this morning, the Sox just provided us with a press release that says that the Sox weather service "calls for a possibility of a break in today's rain showers."

Therefore, gates will open at the regularly scheduled time (5:05 p.m.), and the team will do everything possible to play the game.

(It's almost like they're playing a joke on us. A cruel, cruel joke.)

But the Sox are postponing the ceremony for Johnny Pesky and the retirement of his uniform number until Sunday because of the uncertainty of the weather. It will now take place at 1:15 p.m. on Sunday, before that day's game.

The Sox also want you all to know that "this forecast is of course subject to change as the day progresses."

No, really?
