Scioscia pulls starters

Posted by Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff September 26, 2008 11:19 PM

ANAHEIM - With John Lackey getting shelled (10 runs, 12 hits in 2-2/3 innings, the worst outing of his major league career) Angels manager Mike Scioscia has pulled eight of his nine starters in the top of the fourth, trailing Texas 10-1. Whether Scioscia is ticked or merely resting his veterans remains to be seen.

The Red Sox have two scouts - David Howard and Dane Levangie - scouting this three-game series in anticipation of a possible ALDS faceoff. Not much to scout tonight.

  1. Tampa Bay losing tonight means the Angels have already clinched best record in the AL no matter what they do. With the Red Sox losing big, all the AL races are likely settled except the Central.

  1. The Angels clinched homefield advantage as soon as the Rays lost earlier..

  1. Nick, the Angels already DID clinch home field tonight. The Angels already have 99 wins. With the Rays' loss this evening, the most wins Tampa can finish with is 98.
