Sox on the board

Posted by Adam Kilgore, Globe Staff September 7, 2008 03:29 PM

Boston is up, 2-0, after the top of the second thanks to a two-out rally Jason Varitek started with a single. Alex Cora laced a triple down the right-field line to score Varitek. That's the fifth triple this series, the third by the Red Sox.

Coco Crisp followed by slapping a hard grounder back up the middle and into centerfield, which scored Cora. Crisp is now on a nine-game hitting streak.

In Toronto, Tampa Bay is down, 1-0, and batting in the top of the eighth. You can thank Toronto starter David Purcey for dealing this afternoon. He's still in the game.
