The little things
MVP-type numbers notwithstanding, Paul Byrd (and possibly every other Sox pitcher) loves Dustin Pedroia for the little things.
For instance, the play Pedroia made on a dribbler by Joe Inglett.
It was the kind of tweener that got the attention of Sean Casey at first and also drew Byrd off the mound, but Pedroia came from second, scooped it and shoveled it to Casey without even bothering to use his bare hand.
It's small. And while it seems like everything Pedroia does is done with the golden touch these days, that play helped push Byrd to another quiet inning.
He's retired seven straight. The Sox have Jason Varitek on second thanks to a Burnett beanball and a Coco Crisp grounder. Jacoby Ellsbury's at the plate with one away.
