Sox hold on
Sox add a run in the eighth when David Ortiz smashes a triple to right field, scoring on Kevin Youkilis's long fly ball to center field.
For the ninth inning, the Sox bring out Jonathan Papelbon. But the Jays quickly get a run off the closer, Vernon Wells ripping a double down the third-base line, and Adam Lind pinch hitting for Mench and hitting an RBI single to left field. It's 4-2, no outs.
Lyle Overbay hits a single to left center, and tries to stretch it into a double, getting tagged out at second on the throw from Jason Bay to Dustin Pedroia (very close play). Scott Rolen's infield hit brings home Lind to make it 4-3, two outs. Gregg Zaun is at the plate, with a chance.
He can't do it. Papelbon gets him to ground out to Pedroia and earns the save.
Sox win, 4-3.
Toronto left five on base, Boston left four.

Not to be a downer, but to all of you that thought the umpiring was bad when we didnt get the calls in the Rays game .... did you see the call at 2B in the 9th inning on Overbay? Not to mention that Youk looked like he pulled his foot off 1st base too.
I'm hardly an umpire-backer (I coach Little League, so I've had my share of issues on calles), but all in all, the umps call what they see, and it all evens out in the long run
What's up with Paps? He's giving up way too many hits and runs. Not a good sign going into the post season. Nice game by Lester. Go Sox!!!
Papelbon seems to have run into a wall, if the last few outings are any indication.
Let's hope it's temporary. Without an effective Papelbon, you can kiss the post-season (or at least winning in the post-season) goodbye.
