A good (p.r.) man moves on

Posted by Adam Kilgore, Globe Staff October 23, 2008 05:29 PM

John Blake's final act as Red Sox Vice President, Media Relations exemplified two of the qualities -- diligence and humility -- that made him so good at his job and so well-liked in the press box. The man sent out his own press release.

Blake announced that he is moving back to the Texas Rangers, where he worked from 1984 to 2004 and where he will now serve as a team vice president in charge of communications. Blake had been with the Red Sox since 2006.

“It is great to have a person of John’s caliber, revered throughout Major League Baseball, return to the Rangers," Rangers team president Nolan Ryan said in the release. “John will be involved in a number of initiatives to help promote and enhance the Texas Rangers awareness while working with the members of our talented staff.”

Extra Bases wishes Blake the best and offers hearty congrats.

  1. Just get Teixeira, stay away from Sheets, Pavey, CC and Burnett, we have some pitchers waiting for a chance....I wouldn't mind Lowe in a Sox uniform again, love his sinker!! Has some age, some baggage, but a great arm and control.

  1. I totally agree with Joe the Plumber. This guy Blake was a jerkwater. He belongs in Texas with the rest of Right Wing World.
