    1. Rumor has it that Beckett could start game 1 on normal rest, followed by lester, matsusaka and byrd. Any confirmation on that? Who's going to take Lowell's spot on the roster for this series, can't be that same kid that took his spot on the ALDS, he has extremely limited value.

    1. I don't think so.
TBS has paid big money for the rights.

    1. ugh..why do we get stuck with TBS for all the games. Fox HD is definitely of a higher quality than TBS's HD feed.

    1. Love the new in game format, but it would be nice to get the press conference transripts listed in the blog. Mike Reiss does this with the Pats and it is very informative. Is this possible for the Sox?

    1. please, please find different announcers on TBS. I want to have the game called as it is being played, not what the announcer would or wouldn't do if he were playing!

Posted by mary lewis October 7, 08 11:27 AM
    1. Wouldn't that be nice! TBS is terrible. They decide who they want to win and they focus on that too much rather than airing impartial baseball coverage. They didn't even air the 1st inning of Sunday's game. It wasn't one of Beckett's more stellar innings of the year, but I recorded the game because I was there and I was curious if the umpire's calls at the plate were as horribly lopsided in favor of LAA as they seemed to be from our perspective that night. NESN usually has a lot more cameras on the field and the fans and feeds the jumbo-tron with replays and fans being goofy and TBS didn't do any of that. It definitely had an effect on the crowd's excitement level.

    1. Get cable you cheap bastard.

      Posted by Troy B October 7, 08 12:05 PM
    1. What did we do to deserve the dixieland TV crew? Can't NESN send over one of the girls to at least replace Sager? I think he raids the closest Goodwill before each game day for those hideous suits.

Posted by Pedro October 7, 08 12:13 PM
    1. That would be nice! There are many fans who would love to watch the game who cannot get tickets and who do not want to pay the high cost of a cable subscription! If baseball is the all American sport, then it should be available to all Americans to watch on regular local TV!

    1. To all those that thought LA would sweep us... you know where you can stick your broom. Red Sox Nation awaits the next round. Belive in Boston. Go Sox!!!!! I am hopeful we can beat them. The Sox have an incredible drive in their post season. Behind you 100%.

    1. stop being cheap and get cable. alcs is on tbs, ws is on fox

Posted by DeezInYaTrunk October 7, 08 01:17 PM
    1. The extra day off allows the Sox to have the following rotation:
      Game 1- Dice K
      2- Lester
      3- Beckett
      4-Wake
5-Lester (on normal rest) Plus at Fenway
      6-Beckett (on normal rest)
7- Dice K (both starts on road)

    1. The NLCS was on TBS last year, and ALCS was on FOX. Apparently they alternate with the new contract that took effect last year.

Posted by Jim October 7, 08 02:55 PM
    1. DIRECTV has a deal where you can watch all this stuff and all the Pats games when they are not on for some reason.

It's called pay TV, just like a cell phone.

    1. I think the Rays are going to be a huge challenge for the Red Sox. They may just beat them, I hate to say. I feel anxious about it. We need Papi to have a stellar series as well continued great play from the Young Guns.

Posted by Nancy Niles October 7, 08 03:51 PM
    1. The first inning of Sunday's game was moved over to TNT so TBS could show the end of the other game. I think we are stuck with the same announcers from last night for this series too.

      Posted by Wakefield-notTim October 7, 08 04:42 PM
    1. Matsusaka, Beckett, Lester, Wakefield, Beckett

    1. I love the Sox but I like the Rays in this series. Why ? simply the Red Sox relievers walk people, the Rays relievers do not.

    1. Turn off the sound on the TV and turn on the radio if you don't like the broadcasters. Radio broadcasters are generally much better than their TV counterparts.

Posted by Fran Taylor October 7, 08 06:46 PM
    1. Thank God it's on TBS...That much less Joe Buck & the 'Tard McCarver for the post season...Sure the TBS crew could be much, much better...but Joe Buck & the Tard are brutal...you want guys who pick thier favorite team & talk about nothing else...Buck & the 'tard take the cake...I know I won't miss one Timmah...McCarver's insightful jabber about the number of different ways a batter can get on base...yeah Tim...we get it...there are a number of ways! It's ashame a local over-the-air station can't carry the game for those without cable...sadly money talks.
Go SOX! I'd like to see it in 5 (or sooner)!! : )

Posted by Seags October 7, 08 07:10 PM
    1. I agree, cable is very expensive and many families and the elderly are having to go without to save money. MLB should have the games on regular stations so that all can enjoy.
      Go Sox!

    1. What moth ball closet did the TBS reporters' suits come from?! Oh my gosh!!! They should take some of the money TBS is paying them and buy some new clothes. Or call up Stacy & Clinton from TLC's "What Not to Wear" and get a free $5,000 wardrobe. I can't believe their wives let them out of the house like that!

Posted by Huge Sox Fan October 7, 08 10:24 PM
    1. hope the series doesn't go seven games..I'm not sure Craig Sager has enough thrift shop suits

    1. I watched the game and tuned in on XM to hear
Joe and Dave do the broadcast. Syncronize the tv picture to
      the radio broadcast. Very enjoyable

    1. I don't have a problem with Chip Caray but Buck Martinez and Ron Darling are for the birds. Overall though, they are no worse than our NESN crew, so I just turn on Joe and Dave on radio, who are the best in the business and my regular fare during the regular season. The only TV announcers I voluntarily listen to are the Hawk and Darren Jackson on WGN.
It is a shame, though, that the series is not on terrestial TV so that shut-ins, who can't afford cable and poorer kids can see it. Someday Baseball will wonder why there are no young people in the audiences.

    1. I hate that one league gets their championship series on broadcast and one is on cable. I'm not necessarily cheap. I don't get cable because I'm a student who doesn't watch a whole lot of TV except for Patriots games and until this year, the Red Sox in the postseason. I guess this is an excuse to go to bars to watch the games.

    1. about Game 6*: Saturday, Oct. 18, 4:37 p.m. if NLCS is still being played; 8:07 p.m. if not (at Tampa Bay) ........the wording is confusing.......IF the NLCS is still going on, the game will be at 8:07? or the opposite situation.........?

    1. Here's the math on cable costs (at least in Cambridge, where I live): Comcast charges $55.55 per month for "Standard" cable, and $7.91 per month for "Basic" cable. Over the course of a year, that's a net of $571.68 more for "standard" cable. I don't know about those of you who think those of us who don't spring for "standard" cable are cheap, but with gas prices at $3.60 a gallon, a huge winter heating bill about to kick in, and rising food prices, $571.68 isn't exactly spare change that I find between the couch cushions....

    1. I live in the fenway, can't buy a ticket, can't watch it on tv without paying for cable, redsox nation evidently includes atlanta (tbs), can't park on my street because of illegally parked fans in resident parking spots. fans litter my yard after every game. i'm going to wear bike shorts to work next week, do a little irish jig and extort my company for a $450K raise. do you think it will work? i really, really, REALLY hate the red sox.

Posted by steve October 10, 08 09:36 PM
    1. All the talk about buying cable is horsesh1t...I'd gladly pay a couple bucks to watch it online (since I'd rather have online access than "repeat hell" cable...however, that doesn't seem to be an option now does it. Interesting that for the team that has the largest fan base across the US, they get relegated to cable land.

Play both series on FOX...today, one game was at four and the other at 8...then they play on alternate days...what is FOX afraid no one will tune into their *wonderful* primetime programming, if they have consecutive nights of baseball?

So, outside of New England, on FOX while the Sox-Rays are playing on TBS, we get "Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader?" Apparently, MLB and FOX are not.

    1. The tv announcers for the Red Sox-Tampa Bay game (especially one announcer) seem just a little biased towards Tampa. Every time Tampa gets a big play or home run he yells out "We are tied or We're up by one, etc." Haven't heard that much excitement for Red Sox home runs !!

Posted by AL October 11, 08 09:38 PM
    1. How about all games earlier!!!! These late nights get to us!!!! Some of us actually WORK days!

    1. Happy I am not alone with the frustration of having the games only available on TBS; money, money, money...not too nice for we Fenway faithful; I have some cable and DO get NSEM so this was very surprising to me.

Posted by BAJ October 12, 08 11:31 AM
    1. You get your wish... Game 3 is listed @ 4:30, so that MLB can collect the revenues from having two games. MLB doesn't care about fans, they care about $$$. The first game starts while most of us are in work, the second ends when most of us are zzzzing away for work the next day!

Posted by drtdog October 12, 08 08:13 PM
    1. OMG!! Could we PLEEZE get a broadcaster that can tell us what's going on from BOTH team's perspectives??? I think this broadcast team doesn't know if the Red Sox are playing the Rays or the Wasila, Alaska Moose!! This bunch of broadcasters must be from Tampa, or paid for by the Tampa Bay Chamber of Commerce. If I hear about "this young Rays team" one more time, I will vomit!

    1. I agree that these play off games should be on free TV!! Jon Henry and crew, you and the other MLB owners should be ashamed of yourselves for allowing these games to be on cable television. You are as out of touch with the stuggles of everyday people as are McCain and Bush!! Those of us not up to our eyeballs in debt and trying to say no to unnecessary expenses so we can save for our futures can't afford cable (and never go to games!). Many who have cable can't afford it either, they just haven't come to terms with it yet!! Put the games on broadcast stations next year and stop being so greedy!

    1. Type your comment here...just had to say "Go Rays"- from a die-hard female Yankee fan- as a baseball fan, I do admire the Sox for winning that game when they were down 7-0 ... you have a strong team! the game was on ESPN Radio last nite (1050am in NY)- the ALCS should be on free TV for all of America to watch

Posted by Carol October 19, 08 03:52 PM
    1. I don't have cable; I would have enjoyed watching ALCS and was wondering why it wasn't on regular TV as was NLCS; maybe MLB will award contract for next year's WS to TBS (or some other cable company) so they can lose some more fans. Can anybody say "corporate greed?" Can I afford cable; yes. Can everybody...probably not. I can see regular season games being on cable but the prelude to the WS? I may be a "CB" but mortage is paid, don't have credit card or other debts and can use my new-found extra time to get more things done around the homestead.
