Closing time
If you’re looking for one more example that everything about the Boston Red Sox has changed since 2004, there’s this: The Red Sox, gaggers for decades, have become cold-blooded postseason finishers. They have played six games in which a victory would give them a playoff series win since 2004. They have won them all.
The Red Sox, of course, can extended that streak to seven tonight at Fenway Park by sweeping the Los Angeles Angels, who at the moment look more overmatched than Sarah Palin in a ninth-grade civics course. (The Angels are the only team since 1931 to win 100 games without a 30-home run hitter, a 100-RBI producer, or a 20-game winner. Is it possible all of those piled up largely owing to a heinous AL West?)
The Red Sox have now won nine consecutive postseason games going back to last year, starting when they were down 3-1 to the Cleveland Indians in the ALCS. No. 10 would again validate the Red Sox’ ability to put away teams when they earn the chance. In the last six games the Red Sox have entered with a chance to close out a series, they have outscored opponents 45-15.
Here now is a brief rundown of those games:
Date: Oct. 8, 2004
Result: Red Sox 8, Angels 6, ALDS Game 3
Over when: David Ortiz hit a two-out, two-run walk-off home run off Jarrod Washburn in the bottom of the tenth inning.
Significance: In the other clubhouse, Darin Erstad says, “Those boys are winning the World Series, by the way.”
Date: Oct. 20, 2004
Result: Red Sox 10, Yankees 3, ALCS Game 7
Over when: Johnny Damon pulverized an upper-deck grand slam in the second inning, giving the Red Sox a 6-0 lead.
Significance: The Red Sox became the first team to ever overcome a 3-0 series deficit and made their first World Series since 1986.
Date: Oct. 27, 2004
Result: Red Sox 3, Cardinals, 0, World Series Game 4
Over when: One of Trot Nixon’s three doubles scores David Ortiz and Jason Varitek in the third inning and gives the Sox their final run.
Significance: Establishes Derek Lowe as one of the great money pitches of this era. Other than that, not much, really. (Kidding!)
Date: Oct. 7, 2007
Result: Red Sox 9, Angels 1, ALDS Game 3
Over when: The teams took the field. The hobbling Angels offered some resistance until the Red Sox scored seven runs in the eighth.
Significance: The Red Sox show how much they’ve evolved since their rapid 2005 ouster and their no-playoffs 2006 season.
Date: Oct. 21, 2007
Result: Red Sox 11, Indians 2
Over when: Dustin Pedroia rocked a two-run home run in the seventh to turn a 3-2 game into a 5-2 game. The six runs the Sox added in the eighth helped, too.
Significance: Boston overcame a 3-1 series hole to advance back to the World Series.
Date: Oct. 28, 2007
Result: Red Sox 4, Rockies 3
Over when: Bobby Kielty hit a solo home run in the top of the eighth. Even when the Rockies scored two in the bottom half, Jonathan Papelbon was there to win the game.
Significance: The Red Sox win their second World Series in four years, establishing themselves as perhaps baseball premier organization.
A note from Adam, update at 1:15 Monday.
Well, that attempt at humor did not go as planned. Thanks to everyone who read and posted a comment. Believe me, I learned my lesson about including politicians and/or politics on the Extra Bases blog. There is a difference between a political comment and a comment about a politician, and I believe what I wrote fell into the latter category. But that is a fine line, and not one that should be tested in this forum. So, again, thank you for reminding me of that. I regret that the focus of readers was needlessly diverted from baseball.
It was not supposed to be any kind of political statement, only a play on a widely perceived notion of a very public figure. Clearly, many people widely perceive her to be intelligent, competent, and richly deserving of the vice presidency. I make no judgment in this space about either perception.
Glad that's out of the way. Let's get back to baseball. And only baseball. For good. Thanks again.

Nice political rip. Why don't you leave that crap off the sports page? Yes, we get it. The Globe hates Republicans. Nothing more pathetic than sports writers using sports columns to put in their two cents about politics. Lame...
Adam, please leave politics out of your Sox commentary. No one is interested in your opinion of Gov Palin.
Please do you homework before you make such ridiculous statements like " Is it possible [that the Angels 100 wins] piled up largely owing to a heinous AL West?" If you had done your homework, you would have realized that the Angels had a better winning percentage against the AL East than the AL West (.651/.631). Just as we have come to expect the Red Sox to be cold-blooded post-season finishers, your readers have come to expect much higher quality journalism from members of the Globe's Red Sox team.
Jeez. If I wanted biased political commentary from a lame sports reporter, Adam, I could have tuned in to Olbermann.
Thanks for the historical recap. But as they used to say when Wall Street was still open "Past performance is no guarantee of future results."
Still, I will be rooting for a Sox sweep tonight -- as will members of Red Sox Nation across all "57 states" as Obama would say.
I beg to differ regarding the Palin comment. That was hilarious and right on the money. Republicans need to wake up and smell the coffee -- she is not up for the task. In fact, I think that pretty much anyone reading this article is more qualified to pinch hit for the Red Sox than she is to be vice president. And at least the whole world won't fall apart when we strike out.
Thanks for a great article!
Wow I thought the rest of the globe was trying their best to force their liberal views on people but now they got their sports staff on that left wing propaganda train? Stick with the sports Kilgore. I think you are just jealous that Palin was a better sports reporter than you ever dream of being.
"Nothing more pathetic than sports writers using sports columns to put in their two cents about politics."
Something way more pathetic: Dennis and Callahan spewing right wing claptrap all over the WEEI morning "sports talk". One mention of Palin and the D and C crowd goes crybaby- typical!
Adam, you are the one who seem over matched yourself. Not only are your "insights" lame, your "facts" are not correct. You should be more professional than to spew political put downs. Leave the real sports to real sports reporters and go blog somewhere else
Good for you...you know if it was a rip about Biden or Obama, no one would say anything. These people are from Massachusetts? Well maybe you should move if you dont like this. We are a liberal state and we always vote Democrat because this state is a working man's state. So too bad and stop crying. I liked the touch Adam, and the information. Go Red Sox and go Obama....'tis time we get the WASP's out of the white house and out of our state.(oh yeah, I am Irish. But I am not racist)
I read the sports page for sports, not some sportswriter trying to impose his political views.
Stick to sport, junior.
Pathetic! You don't deserve to write for a major paper like the Globe. Game 3 will be tough and the Sox need to play up to their potential. Game 2 had several breaks go our way, we need to be able to handle things if they go the Halo's way in game 3. KEEP POLITICS OUT OF THE SPORTS SECTION!!!!
chill out everyone, it was pretty funny
Palin mention in article: 3.5 seconds (5 seconds if you are a slow reader, 15 seconds if you are Palin)
Dennis and Callahan attacking anything not stuck to the right wing wall: 4 hours a day/20 hrs. a week
Well Adam, you're getting a little roasted on the political commentary, I see! (Even if it is a valid point). Poor, thin-skinned Republicans. Reminds me of some hair-brained Yankee fans!
You could throw the win-or-go-home games in the mix, too - the 1st 3 wins against the Spanks in '04, the Cleveland comeback victories last year. Talk about nerveless. Let's see if it all holds up tonite. Here's a vote for Mike Lowell getting a monster hit in the 4th and the rest of the game off.
Screw you and your politics Kilgore. Stick to sportswriting or better yet, go back to your 9th grade English exposiition writing class where you can get some help. You're not clever or creative. Your talent level is what I would expect to see on the pages of the Bedford High Bugle.
Ditto on the political BS. The Sox are our escape from it
No one wants to read your political opinion. Just do your job and report on the Red Sox.
Another Obamamaniac in the corrupt liberal media.
Just keep quite and write about sports.
Lame. I guess the class of Red Sox coverage left with Gordan. No surprise players don't like playing in Boston. Only part of the biased Globe worth reading was sports, now we have to deal with politics here as well.
I am a republican and found the comment to be pretty funny. His sports writing leaves something to be desired and that can be ripped, but please have a sense of humor. If we can't laugh, what's left?
If I want you political opinion I'll rattle your cage. Stick to sports or slam both parties equally. (OH, excuse me that would require a unbias media). JERK
palin sucks. go red sox
Uhh...this is a blog...not reporting per se. Think of it more like a column. Columnists are hired to write to the audience and demographic of those who read that particular paper. Guess what? The Globe leans to the left. He can say whatever he wants about Palin, specifically because this IS a sports column. If it were a political column it would not make sense to do so. Do you write SNL and tell them to leave politics out of it? No. So relax or don't read. If you really think Palin is a capable choice then good for you and you should spend your comment space telling us why, not berating a writer who has earned his opportunity to write a simple joke whose point is held by 95% of the readership.
Wow, what's everyone so bent out of shape about? It's sunday, which means football all day then the sox tonight... and you're on here complaining about one political joke? (which was funny, I might add) Take it easy little Limbaugh's.
If you want to get really fired up, I suggest taking a look at the electoral map today. www.electoral-vote.com
yeah, yeah,i get it.you guys are all bleedng liberals. It's real annoying having to read a SPORTS page that doubles as an op/ed page.Talk rado is ,well,talk/blabber radio.Cut the crap with the elitist, smarmy jabs and stick to something that you Know about....sports.Jerk!
Hey y'all, Adam's just givin' us the straight talk we be cravin' from our jern-lists!
Keep it up Adam - you MAVERICK!
I hate Republicans, too ;)
I love cheering for a team like this. I hope they *pound* the Angels tonight and relax for the LCS. Keep your foot on the neck, boys, don't give them any hope!
(BTW, as for the Palin comment, I'm a lifelong Republican and I'm completely embarrassed to have that pinhead on the ticket. If/when McCain keels over, this utter nobody would be President! Why not pick Romney?)
Agreed keep politics off the sports section. Do globe reporters get a bonus everytime they make an anti republican statement? Every Sunday morning the globe has a headline on Boston.com about the latest Saturday Night Live skit spoofing Republicans. Shameless!
well, Palin is an idiot so why not jab her every chance he can? He wants to save yourself from yourself, joesixpack.
Hey, Adam! You've touched quite a nerve with your Palin remark - a defensive prickliness, I'm guessing. Republicans are attracted to bright, shiny things that tarnish easily when exposed to the elements. Keep up the good work. We've just barely survived 8 years of Texas hillbillyism, we don't need the Alaska version. Oh...and Go Sox!!!
No doubt, don't take yourselves too seriously, Adam doesn't!!
Crap political commentary. Grow up and be an actual sports reporter and leave the bashing to your Globe associates.
Hey, guys, The Angels are a victim of their easy path to this postseason. Each other team other than the Cubs were vying for qualifying spots till the end. (Note: CUBS). Without that battling for position, the Halos just did not play enough highly intensified games that would allow them to be successful thus far. I however still am hanging on to that last bit of hope.
Palin overmatched in a civics class? What's political or opinion-l,ike about that? It's now a well-known and incontrovertible fact demonstrated by herself on national television every time she appears there, and likely demonstrated to the people of Alaska on a regular basis.
It was a good metaphor for his opinion on the Angels' baseball fortunes.
I hope you Republicans call in to EEI to get Dennis and Callahan to lay off Obama too. OF course, if you're dumb enough to think Palin has the goods required for the job she wants, then you probably agree with those two clowns.
Really, Adam? I think the Angels look more overmatched than Barack Hussein Obama at a no pre-conditions sit down with Ahmadinejad.
No it wasn't pretty funny. It was incorrect, offensive and typically one-sided.
I love reading the Globe Sports online, but EVERY SINGLE DAY one idiot sports reporter after another takes a cheap shot against McCain or Palin. I read the sports as a break from the general media's hate of the Right, but the Globe's Sports section is actually becoming unreadable.
Are you kidding? This is great stuff! That a liberal is so frightened of Sarah Palin that his fear permeates an elementary article about the Red Sox (This just in: Sox don't choke anymore - no, really?). The AL West is "heinous" (hatefully or shockingly evil - Merriam/Webster dictionary)? Do tell! Maybe we ought to rename them the O.J. West. Did you want to be a writer when you grow up, Algore (whoops, I mean Kilgore - sorry)?
Bill
If any of you crybabies have info that Sarah Palin actually COULD pass a 9th grade civics class, then put it on the table. Otherwise, its simply accurate, honest journalism.
why don't you guys read the herald if you prefer the right-wing of things written with the vocabulary and nuance of a seventh grade book report? even sarah palin, if she wasn't lying about reading newspapers, can understand its articles.
Since the Globe is a NY Times comapny it must follow the NY TImes policy of taking integrity out of journalism. Don't let facts get in the way of a story! Since we are on the politics thing in a sports colum, if you live in Barney Frank's district vote against him please-a vote for Barney Frank is a disservice to America
I am a life-long registered Republican woman. The comment about Palin was actually quite apt. She is an insult to all American women and she's an insult to Republicans as well.
Adam,
Poor taste to bash not only a Vice presidential candidate but also a woman who has achieved great success in her career. Stick to Sports. But jealousy makes us do strange things. Something to ponder as you rethink every bad decision you have made in life...
It was a joke. Relax.
Honestly, no matter what side of the aisle you are there really is no place for political commentary in a sports column. I am an out of state reader and come here to catch up on what's going on in Boston sports and could care less about the political opinions of a columnist. Be a professional and stick to the subject at hand.
It may be funny but it is an opinion and even elementary school students know that opinions belong on the editorial page not in a sports column. Oh I forgot this is the Globe and anything goes-worse than reality TV
Funny? It was lame. Stick to sports. that's what got you here. Learn from Olbermann's grave error.
I agree - the 9th graders PUT TOGETHER would be overmatched , along with 35yr. senator Biden and his Socialist blow-up-the-Capitol pals. Baseball is a religion - don't mix it with politics.
The politics would be fine if it were true. The Angels/Red Sox games have been the most exciting of the division series, that's not overmatching. And S.P. is not very deep but she's not dumb either.
In my opinion the bloggers have introduced the political overtones to Adam's writing. He put a one liner in there that, as a registered Republican, I thought was funny and accurate given recent events. Expressing personal opinions in an editorial blog is a privilege of the writer and the joke was good. One statement is true. Keep SPORTS on the sports page and leave the politics out. Too bad it's the readers bringing it in and not Kilgore. Go SOX and is anyone else happy to see the Cubs get swept? I'm all for a Dodgers v Sox series if it can end up that way.
Ha! Palin comment was hilarious. Besides it's about as main stream a joke as you can get. When it's fodder for the opening of SNL every week, it's beyond the limits of the news and political pages.
I'll take a Palin joke any day! (Since she is a joke...)
Oh, and the AL West was a joke this year too. No matter what the Angels did against the East or Central. When you play the vast majority of your games against 3 inferior teams, it will massively inflate your win total. It seems you couldn't avoid ANYONE touting the mystical 100 win total. As a gauge of postseason success it is meaningless!
While the Sox and Rays were grinding out meaningful games all year against each other, the Jays, Yanks and even much improved (for them) Orioles, the Angels entire division was a cake walk!
I prefer reading my sports without political commentary. Yes, I live in MA. And MA is not a "working man's" state any more.
Make as much fun of Palin and Obama's lack of experience in a different section please.
Even for someone like me who thinks Palin is nothing more than a pig with lipstick found the comment rashly out of place in a sports column. But more disturbing was Kilgore's abject failure to understand the nature of the Angel's season. Sure they had a good winning record in the weak West but they did better against the East because they dominated the Red Sox in the regular season. And, I never like folks who crow about how good we are when there are so many games left before win anything of significance.
Leave it to the loonie lefties at the Globe to work a political comment into a sports commentary. I think it is your beloved Joe Biden who needs remedial education in history, He doesn't know who the president was during the depression and he also thinks t that tv had been invented in 1929. Very sad that Joe " I can't tell the truth" Bidden never seems to be scrutnized.
Please refrain from insulting 9th grade civics classes -- they're not nearly as bad as you suggest.
Hey LIBERAl pantywaste males? Any man who votes Obama-Biden deserves exactly what will be on the horizon. The establishment of a new cabinet position (the Dept. of Male Castration) Biden the author of the Violence Against Women ONLY Act (VAWOA) is anti male and anti father. Where VAWOA equates to all women=GOOD! All men=BAD! He also authored the unconstitutional International Marriage Brokers Act (IMBRA) where all American males are considered "ABUSERS". Any male who wants contact with a foreign woman has to detail ALL convictions/accusations of domestic violence to her before having the ability to even talk to her! She desn't have to submit anything!!! Obama ...a supporter of late term murdering children is a favorite of N.O.W!
Interesting reaction to your commentary.
The negative responders sound like they are afraid of something.
And I can't help but wonder if fear is behind their willingness to support GWB's female counterpart.
Comment #12 seems right on target..
Wow! As an interested, yet unbiased, bystander in the upcoming US election and lifelong Red Sox fan, I relish the opportunity to get a little political jab at the most unqualified VP candidate EVER and a rahrah, partially factual baseball analysis all in one sports article. Very efficient, Adam. Of course, you can't expect Palin's lemmings to find it funny and thus the whining. Incredibly, they may yet get the last laugh.
Kilgore is a strong new voice -- he's been a welcome addition to these pages since Edes' departure. The hypocritical comments, which are much more politically biased than the original article, are way off base.
I keep telling myself that I have to stop reading the Globe. Now that the politcal bias has infected the sports pages.....
It isn't that funny to make fun of Palin and it isn't sports.
By the way, Sarah Palin's degree is in journalism, and she was a formerly tv sportscaster.
Wow, lots of sensitivity to even the slightest hint of anti-Republican sentiment!
I smell.....LOSERS.
You guys had it all your way for 2000-2006....you would have had every liberal rotting in prison if you could have managed it. You probably ruined this country in the process, now you can't even take a little humor at your expense? Wussy little twerps. Bush and Cheney will be wearing orange prison jumpsuits this time next year....get used ot it.
Keep up the great writing! I enjoyed the Red Sox playoff history review. Seems like the nerds over at the MA. Republican State Committee sent out an email about you this AM. Sorry that some people have no tact. It's sad.
I hate to see the letters some of these losers write to saturday night live if they see a sports skit they don't like. Good writing does sometime incorporate current events and even a truthful analogy i.e. Palin is over matched!
First, it wasn't funny and, second, It's sad to see that the liberal group-think of the New York Times has reached all the way down to the sports section of the Globe. In the name of fairness, I expect the next political reference will be about how certain athletes are as good at overseeing their finances as Barney Frank was at overseeing Fannie Mae.
Would she or would she not be overmatched in a 9th grade civics class? The answer is obvious.
Let's keep it to sports. Although I chuckled at the irony of the statement, considering your article the other day had at least 2 huge mistakes in it. Must be nice to be so smart.
I guess that SNL skit wouldn't go over too big here, huh?
PS-Politics is deep into sport these day; turnabout is fair play!
Chillout ????
Where was Adam's political tirade about the Chinese during the Olympics. Looks like he's only got the guts, or perhaps it's the Globe's editors lack of, to take pot shots during an important political time here at home, but not the backbone to take one at a truly oppresive dictatorship. Shows what kind of a man you really are.
Did you play sports Adam, if you did then you know sports are about one thing and one thing only. SPORTS. Keep your petty small politics to yourself. They have no place in the hallowed sports pages of the Boston Globe
Wow, talk about some angry Republicans. You guys are over doing it with your attacks on this writer. Chill out! Nice recap.
She graduated 9th grade? How many times?
Exactly. Completely innocuous comment, and like any well-delivered joke in a piece of writing, it doesn't take away from the content of the article. All you haters are just mad it's about your girl Palin. Of course, when you get into political jokes, you set yourself up for this sort of thing. Personally, I enjoyed it, Adam, but wouldn't recommend it in the future, lest you take any luster off your baseball writing (which is indeed very good).
Didn´t I win the debate against that democrat Biden? Why y´all have to continue to make fun of me? Even though Biden repulsively faked nearly crying during our debate and bored everyone to death with his monotone diatribe against grandpa McCain, I still think he is more qualified than me to be vice president, and certainly more qualified than the Francisco Rodriguez to close out a game against the Red Sox...
I agree - the 9th graders PUT TOGETHER would be overmatched , along with 35yr. senator Biden and his Socialist blow-up-the-Capitol pals. Baseball is a religion - don't mix it with politics.
The Angels had a .500+ record against every AL team except Tampa Bay. Winning 100 games certainly doesn't mean they played better than everyone else in the league, but to say they racked up those wins because they were in a weak division is silly.
They've played like crap in two games.
"who at the moment look more overmatched than Sarah Palin in a ninth-grade civics course."
An easy cheap shot that has no place in a sports section. The sad fact is, Adam, that Sarah Palin is a state governor, even if she goes no further in politics. That means she has already accomplished more in her lifetime than you EVER will. Now, look around at your fellow scribes. Tell me which of THEM has or will go further than Palin?
So if this woman is "overmatched" - what does that make you? (Hint: It's NOT something better than her, no matter how you try to frame it. You really, really would not want your life and its merits assessed in the context you've set up for yourself.)
You're good at covering baseball. You'd be wise to stick to that.
"I keep telling myself that I have to stop reading the Globe. Now that the politcal bias has infected the sports pages.....
It isn't that funny to make fun of Palin and it isn't sports.
By the way, Sarah Palin's degree is in journalism, and she was a formerly tv sportscaster." - yes Anne, it is fun to make fun of her. Know why? She's an idiot. And even though she was able to stand straight for 90 minutes and not drool out of the sides of her mouth, she's still an idiot. It only took her five colleges to get that degree. I'd like to see her debate Johnny Damon, I think they're on the same level, intellectually. Go Sox!
Oh yes, brilliant little article by Adam Kilgore. He's got the lame political jokes that recycle SNL bits, and he's got the childish historically-imposed-predetermined-outcome storyline. All he needs is to insert the catchphrases "hardball gods" and "the immortal Chone Figgins" into every article and he can be the next Dan Shaughnessy. Well, all that plus a Bozo-the-Clown haircut.
i had no idea Boston had so many republicans. I thought they were a dying breed. Get with the times, peeps....no more elected politicans who can't pronounce "NUCLEAR", It is not pronounced "NUCULAR", ok? Where's Schill? I'm sure he'd want to weigh in on this. Even he is more qualified for VP than caribou barbie. Go sox!
Adam: Please keep politics out of the sports section. I did not read your article beyond the 2nd paragraph. If that was your goal then you succeeded. However, I suspect that you wanted Red Sox fans to read your complete article. Placing a political message in your article clearly demonstrates that you are not ready for prime time. Sports and politics do not mix. Adam: I live in Florida and read the Globe for Red Sox, Patriot, Celtic, and Bruin news. I don't want politics in the mix.
So happy that I now live in the Midwest so that I don't have to read the Globe political garbage. Sadly, I was mistaken to believe that the Sports page would be immune. Don't sully the Sox with your political cheap shots.
Next time you want to make an analogy try, "As overmatched as Teddy trying to negotiate the Chappaquiddick."
Go Sox !!!
I think you touched a nerve with the Palin supporters.......thanks a bunch! Go Sox
Cheap shot on Gov. Palin. What do you think you're doing here Kilgore, auditioning for an overnight on MSNBC (aka DNCTV)? Or maybe you're thinking of changing your name to "Adam Algore"?
I'll be skipping every article with this bozo's byline from now on.
Is this sports or a political column. Kepp your political, socialist leaning opinions to yourself. Of course you could have said " the Angels are playing as poorly as Obama speaks without a teleprompter" or " the Angels are as overmatched as Obama is inexperienced". Two can play at that game - jerK!!!! Of course my two comments have truth to them. Palin is well versed in civics.
Just another reason I will never spend money for the Globe. Kilgore- you have no credibility, you will never be mistaken for Gordon Edes.
Your liberal rag beter pray, (Oh I forgot Liberals don't do that) McCain Wins; When a Republucan wins American league wins! 2000 yanks 2004 Sox. Keep your biases, leftest commments out of sports page and to yourself!
Gov. Palin would not like that comment. She might launch a nook-you-lar weapon at the Globe, doggone it. Say it ain't so!
oh yah.
I'm a registered Democrat who is considering voting for one of the alternative party candidates, and I found your cheap pot shot aimed at the only skirt among the two main party tickets to be unfunny and inappropriate to a Red Sox baseball blog.
At least, give equal time (with your dumbed-down slaps) insulting the three male candidates-- there is plenty to weakly "joke" about them, too. But then...it's easy to swipe at a girl... a man of color is a different story...
Why don't you just stick to the topic of today's blog?
Adam,
Please leave the politics to the political pages. For what it's worth - your credibility took a big hit in my opinion. I can't respect someone who's written such inappropriate (and completely unrelated) comments in a SPORTS column.
Forget the lame political crap in a sports column, as others have pointed out, your sports facts are just plain wrong. And stats aside......Damon hit the grand slam off a change-up, low and inside, barely over the short porch in right. The upper deck shot was later in the game. Once again, if politics was just left out I wouldn't have even felt the need to comment. Just separate the two. Jesus.
#80- Caribou Barbie- Can I buy you a drink? You rule!
#87- Thanks for the laff! Best speling ever! That's edumication!
If you don't like big government, move to Somalia (if you can find it on the map!)
I wonder how many of these little boys saying Sarah Palin is an "idiot" could be a Mayor, a Governor with an 80% approval rating, and a VP candidate by 45 years old?
As for this writer, keep politics off the sports page. Nobody cares what you think.
Gee, Obamatrons in MA? Come on!
I'm glad that you are getting ripped apart here Kilgore. You deserve it. All you damn libs keep ripping Palin for having no experience. Obama has even less and is actually running for President unlike Palin who is running for VICE president. Take it a step further and you would realize that she is the governer of Alaska which doesn't have that many less people than Arkansas but Clinton was apparently "qualified." Obama has never run anything in his life other than his political campaign. An appropriate analogy would be that after their 11th straight loss to the Sox, the angels looked as confused as Obama when asked to vote on a bill. (remember voting "present" 100+ times is not an option when you are president)
"who at the moment look more overmatched than Sarah Palin in a ninth-grade civics course."
Wow, if I wanted uninformed commentary from a lefty hack under the guise of sports reporting, I would've tuned in to Olbermann. I take it you're a Barack "57 states" Obama fan. He intends to be president for "8 to 10 years", you know.
One thing is certain, Palin's not nearly as overmatched as Adam Kilgore in front of a TV camera.
Adam, a little head's up. The Patron Saint of Manufactured Outrage, Michelle Malkin, has linked this blog to her website since you had the audacity to comment on Sarah Palin. I'm sure Michelle will suggest rounding up all Red Sox fans and putting them into internment camps as she has with Mexicans. The upside of the link is that we all get to see what a bunch of mouthbreathing racist morons her fans are.
Kilgore, I hope your asinine jealous remark about Palin doesn't jinx the Red Sox.
I'm not mad he ripped Palin, it's what liberals do. They're stupid, it's all they can do. I'm mad because he did it in such a stupid way. I mean, wouldn't it be more apt to say they look more overmatched than Joe Biden in a ninth grade civics course? Palin wasn't the one who didn't know FDR wasn't president at the time of the 1929 market crash or that there's no way he could have got on television to talk to the American people because TV's weren't widely used in America at the time (if at all). He also didn't have any clue about Lebanon or Hamas or when they were "kicked out." Either that, or apparently he has no idea who Hamas is and confused them with Syria, but even then he still doesn't realize that we didn't kick them out, Lebanon did. He also didn't know that Bush Co. didn't say that Saddam was involved with 9/11, in fact, he told grade schoolers the exact opposite. And he didn't even remember that 6 months ago Obama was asked if he would sit down without preconditions with Iran, Syria, North Korea, etc... and Obama replied "Yes." He didn't remember that, even though he used it against Obama in a debate.
Seriously, if you make fun of Palin, use something that makes sense. If your idea was to find someone completely overmatched, you may look at Biden. Hell, I would have said something to the affect that LA seemed clueless on how little time they had to make a rally and they looked like they were as unaware of how many innings there are in a ball game as Barack Obama is about how many states there are in the USA.
Keep your Northeast liberal political commentary to baseball (something you are supposed to know about) and leave off the Palin comments (something you think you know, but alas, like liberals, truly shows your ignorance rather than your "intelligence").
But anyway, Go Sox!
Wow, you libtards can't even hide your bias anymore, can you? Do the world a favor and go flip burgers.
Facts have a known liberal bias.
Facts are facts. She's a dope. A joke.
FACTS. Newspapers print facts. Hence the idiot right's disdain for the "MSM".
I can't wait until you inconsiderate jerks are downsized due to your failing business model and idiotic effort to alienate half your readers with 9th grade level put downs. Goes to show you what a waste of time the Globe is.
Consider me one less reader for your Sports section. I and my frieds will also be pulling links to your stories. ESPN and Yahoo! Sports covers the Red Sox better anyway.
So I guess than we are kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place, since Obama is a "dope" who doesn't even know how many states there are in the union or how to count to two, apparently. "We've been to 57 states now with one left to go, Alaska AND Hawaii." LOL, what a joke that guy is?
And then Biden's gaffe a minute machine, how is he even one heartbeat away from the president?
"Everyone is entitled to their own set of opinions, but not their own set of facts." The MSM doesn't report "facts." Otherwise these comments wouldn't be the first time you found out about Obama's 57 states comments and you would know that Biden doesn't even know when FDR was President and you would know half of the things that us "idiot right" have enlightened you on.
Keep the political cheap shots in the editorial section of your rag.
Vote for the WAR HERO and the Mommy
NOT the plagiarist and the Commie!
GO RED SOX
Woah there sonny....Wait just a minute. Wasn't it Barack Hussein Obama who said there were 57 states? What about Joe Biden saying that Article I of the constitiution outlined Executive powers? Not to mention him stating the story about FDR going on TV the day of the '29 Crash! Who here needs a lesson in Civics? So, are we to surmise that your reporting on sports is factual or is based on your own particular prejudice. . I bet you think Biden beat Gov. Palin in the debate too! And the Patriots beat the Giants in the Super Bowl... and the Red Sox have won more championships than the Yankees!
sigh....another clueless Globe hack at a sinking newsrag who doesn't yet realize he will soon be holding up a hand-lettered "WILL WRITE SPORTS COLUMN FOR FOOD" sign at a SE Expressway exit.
How dumb can a human being be, not to understand that he is alienating the potential readership his paper is losing day after day? If I were a Globe editor desperate to make my numbers I would fire this clown TODAY.
Country Cuz nailed it. Obama and Biden have said stupid things but the People's Globe gives them a pass and sticks with the party line.
"Palin is so stupid she asked a guy in a wheelchair to stand up....errrr no...she's so retarded she said the US kicked Hamas out of Lebanon.....errrr no."
You would have been more correct saying Biden when referencing an idiot. No wonder the Globe is going down the toilet.
Looks like another complaint to the Ombudsman is in order, for whatever little good that will do.
Keep the political crap out of the sports pages.
You, Kilgore, on the other hand, are unintelligent, incompetent, and undeserving of writing for a high school rag, much less a major paper.
You owe your readers and Gov. Palin an apology, and not a wussy "I regret".
great idiotic commentary. Keep up the hack work.
It's no wonder Kilgore is stuck in Boston, writing about the Sux. LOL...what an idiot!
