Game 7 lineups

Posted by Adam Kilgore, Globe Staff October 19, 2008 04:22 PM

The Red Sox made only one change to their lineup tonight, sticking with the idea that Alex Cora hits hard-throwing righthanders better than Jed Lowrie and therefore putting Cora in at shortstop. Coco Crisp is still playing center and leading off, with Jacoby Ellsbury remaining stuck on the bench.

Red Sox
1. Coco Crisp, CF
2. Dustin Pedroia, 2B
3. David Ortiz, DH
4. Kevin Youkilis, 3B
5. J.D. Drew, RF
6. Jason Bay, LF
7. Mark Kotsay, 1B
8. Jason Varitek, C
9. Alex Cora, SS
-- Jon Lester, SP

Rays
1. Akinori Iwamura, 2B
2. B.J. Upton, CF
3. Carlos Pena, 1B
4. Evan Longoria, 3B
5. Carl Crawford, LF
6. Willy Aybar, DH
7. Dioner Navarro, C
8. Rocco Baldelli, RF
9. Jason Bartlett, SS
-- Matt Garza, SP

  1. That's a good move with Cora...the experience of having been there and his smarts will come into play...Lowrie's run out of gas for the time being. For all the nay-sayers who had Tito being kicked out of town and band wagon jumpers who turned it off or left early in Game 5...why not watch NFL's Sunday Night football?

  1. I wish MY cutie Jacoby would play, and play well! I miss him stealing bases and having that awesome average at the beginning of the playoffs!

  1. why isn't ellsbury playing even if he is a pinch runner. He must be in Terry Franconas's dog house for some reason.

  1. I was at Fenway on Monday for this lineup; 7-9 is a dead zone. With Tek and Cora behind him, Kotsay won't see a pitch. Frustrating.

  1. I know Crisp has been hot, but Ellsbury hits Garza REALLY well (over .400 on the year). I think he should be in there.

  1. Regardless of the outcome of tonights Game Seven, could the 2008 Red Sox be considered among the greatest Bosox teams in history? Deep, talented, a little lucky, balanced in age and experience and professional.

  1. Red Sox will win if Lester works on the outside corner of the plate. If he stays inside, they are in trouble.

  1. It's about time...Coco should have always remained the leadoff man. Sure last post season he struggled, so replacing him was a good thing. But this season, in the second half, he was doing well. Why have Outsbury in the lineup when you have a hot Crisp?
