Longoria hits Rays first playoff homer

Posted by Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff October 2, 2008 03:03 PM

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The fans are into it here at The Trop. It's really loud with cow bells clanging all the time. There are all sorts of Rays chants, mostly the catchy "Let's Go Rays!"

You can imagine the frenzy then, when Rookie of the Year candidate Evan Longoria blasted a solo homer off Javier Vazquez in the second inning, giving the Rays a 1-0 lead.
