Meet Gil Velazquez

Here's a quick rundown on Gil Velazquez, who today replaced Mike Lowell on the Red Sox active postseason roster. Velazquez is available for tonight's game.

Height: 6-3 ... Weight: 190
Age: 28 ... Born: Oct. 17, 1979 in Los Angeles, Calif.
Resides: Las Vegas, Nevada
Major League Service: 4 days
Acquired: Signed as a minor league free agent on Dec. 13, 2007
Contract status: Signed through 2008

Summary: In his first year in the Red Sox organization, spent most of the season in Triple-A Pawtucket before being called up on Sept. 25, his first experience at Major League level.... Made his debut as a pinch runner on Sept. 25 vs. Cleveland and got his first start the next day at second base.

Mr. Versatility: Velazquez appeared at five different positions for Pawutcket with 70 games at shortstop, 15 at second base, nine at third base, and four in left field... Made 11 errors in 448 total chances for a .975 fielding percentage.

Highlights: Batted .210 (35 for 167) over his first 51 contest for the PawSox before hitting .306 (56 for 183) with 12 doubles, 3 triples, 9 home runs, and 33 RBIs over his final 50 games.
