TBS problems

Posted by Amalie Benjamin, Globe Staff October 18, 2008 08:24 PM

I know you're all getting an unfortunate dose of The Steve Harvey Show instead of the Red Sox-Rays game. Really, really sorry about that.

What we've been told here in the press box is that there is a router failure in Atlanta, which is leading to transmission problems. We'll keep you updated if we hear anything more than that.

Update: The game has come back on TBS. Coverage came back at approximately 8:27 p.m.

  1. this is why tbs should not have the playoffs

  1. TBS portends to be a major network -- THEY DON'T HAVE A BACKUP PLAN FOR AN EQUIPMENT FAILURE? MLB should rescind whatever deal they have with them and throw the games over to Fox.

  1. another reason for why TBS should not have broadcasting rights for post season. get it together. it's ONE GAME.

  1. Great job by TBS to not put a crawl on the screen until 8:23, too.

Hopefully there will be serious repercussions, but I'm not counting on it. Too bad Bud Selig can't decide on the fly to bring in Fox for Game7.

  1. Am, you apology was very kind, but nobody blames you for MLB picking TBS. (MLB-TV ought to have lifted its blackout and let us see ESPN International. The hot corner thing was maddening, because you could not see the ball after it was hit.)

  1. If anyone wants to voice their opinion to TBS Sports President David Levy, call (404) 885-0758. When you get the opportunity to choose a different mailbox, choose the last name directory and select Mr. Levy.

  1. Yeah, I love how the AP news story says that TBS was running a crawl. What a bunch of bull! The first crawl I saw was past 8:20. Well after the 8:07 start time! If this doesn't tell MLB that they need to get the games off rinky-dink cable TBS, and back on "Real" network BROADCAST television, what will? TBS, no matter how many times they call themselves a "network", will NEVER be one! Cable is cable is cable!

  1. the transmission problem was unacceptable and that there was no back-up plan in place is a very clear indication why TBS should not be broadcasting anything but old reruns and local Atlanta Braves games. The network would like to be taken seriously and play with the big boys but how can they if they can't get Game 6 right? MLB, please take note when you start distribution and licensing rights again.

  1. Five years left on the TBS contract. MLB wouldn't break it over missing one inning, even if they could. I wonder if there will be some type of make-good, though.

Power outages and router failures can happen. Not having a constant crawl is the real negligent part of this.

  1. If this happened during a Braves game the Atlanta fans would prefer Steve Harvey.
MLB pull the plug on TBS minor.
