Is Pedroia a Gold Glover?
DANA POINT, Calif. -- Dustin Pedroia may be taking home some serious hardware this offseason.
He's not only a leading contender for the American League's Most Valuable Player award, but there's a strong chance Pedroia will win the Gold Glove at second base when the voting is announced Thursday at 4 p.m.
Pedroia recently finished second among American League second baseman in Bill James's Fielding Bible awards behind Oakland's Mark Ellis. James and his panel named Cincinnati's Brandon Phillips as the top fielding second baseman in baseball.
But five baseball scouts in attendance here who have watched Pedroia play were unanimous in praise of his defense, including his range and arm strength, and felt he should be the considered the top fielding second baseman in the American League.
Last year, Kevin Youkilis won a Gold Glove at first base, but he might have trouble repeating.
Detroit's Placido Polanco won the award at second base last season.

Brandon Phillips
It's Brandon Phillips you chowderheads
Let me make sure I am clear on this. I'm talking about the player not the person here. Pedroia reminds me so much of Pete Rose, it's scary.
Yes he is worthy of it.
I can't wait for Pedroia to be compared to the Home Run kings, Mike Mcguire and Sammy Sousser.
The last Red Sox second baseman to win a gold glove was Doug Griffin in 1972!
Dustin Pedroia is truly an amazing player. I have followed Red Sox baseball for almost 60 years and believe that Pedroia and Youkilis are as good or better than any we have ever had.
Marl Ellis.......Who else!
Mark Ellis.......Who else!
Gold glove winners for 2008 are Carlos Pena, Dustin Pedroia, Beltre, Young, Mussina, Mauer, Ichiro, Hunter, Sizemore.
A question for NewEnglanderinOH, No. 2 (and to No. 1): What's Brandon Phillips?
Mr. Cafardo's blog entry is about the AMERICAN LEAGUE, second-base Gold Glove winner. Brandon Phillips plays in the National League.
Now who's the chowderhead?
Pete Rose? I'll tell you exactly who Pedroia reminds of...Craig Biggio. Both right-handed 2B's, about 5'9", swinging from their heels with bats about the same size they are.
Confirmed Gold glove for Dustin. Now onto the MVP
