Sox make Rule 5 picks
LAS VEGAS -- In a minor move, the Red Sox picked right-handed pitcher Miguel Marquez, who was on the roster of Seattle Mariners Double A affilliate, and Miguel Gonzalez, a 24-year-old right-handed pitcher on the Los Angeles Angels major league roster, in the Rule 5 Draft. Marquez, a 21-year-old from Venezuela, was the only player selected in the Double A portion.

Any truth to the rumor that we're trading Lugo to Arizona for Eric Byrnes? I saw this info on ESPN.com about 15 minutes ago...
mlb.com says we took Miguel Gonzalez from the Angels, not Marquez. Which one's right?
In the major league phase, the Sox took Miguel Gonzalez, RHP from the Angels organization, in the first round of the AAA phase, the Sox took Jason Rice, a RHP from the White Sox organization, and in the second round of the AAA phase took Miguel Marquez, a RHP from the Mariners organization
Am I missing something. I thought anyone picked in rule-5 had to be on their 25 man roster all year or are returned. As of this morning they only had one opening on their 40 man and you can't be on the 25 without being on the 40? Are the rules different for the AAA or AA portion?
Rule 5 picks for a big budget, contending team like the Red Sox seemingly don't make much sense as they handcuff your roster flexibility. See- Dinardo, Lenny.
"Miguel Gonzalez, a 24-year-old right-handed pitcher on the Los Angeles Angels major league roster"
If Gonzalez had been on the Angels major league roster, he wouldn't have been eligible for the Rule 5 draft. Oy.
Anyone know why Gonzalez apparently didn't pitch this season?

There might have been, but it's no longer viable. The D'backs filled the hole he was intended to fill (Second base) earlier this morning. One would have to assume that such a deal is off the table.
Pick up teixera,Smolts,And Burnett and it's done with
miguel gonzalez is a great pitcher with good command. had knee surgery and did not pitch in 2008. but he is having a great season down in mexico going 3-1 with a 0.99 ERA. allowed 4 earned runs in 40 innings
