Pedroia on cover of PS3's MLB 09 The Show; Papi and Joba together at CES

Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia is on the cover of PlayStation 3's MLB 09 The Show.
According to a press release from Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc.(SCEA), Pedroia's duties include participation in the game's motion capture process, A.I. consultation, integration into all facets of the marketing campaign, and spokesperson for the franchise. The latest installment from the PS3 MLB franchise game is due to hit stores in Spring 2009.
"Dustin Pedroia has made a tremendous impact on an already storied Boston Red Sox organization and was an integral part to their 2007 World Series victory," said Scott A. Steinberg, Vice President, Product Marketing, SCEA. "We are excited to have him become part of our MLB franchise, represent MLB 09 The Show, and join the impressive roster of MLB stars who have served as previous cover athletes."

Red Sox DH David Ortiz, who graced the The Show cover in 2006, is in Las Vegas at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) with Sharp (the official HDTV of Major League Baseball) and made an appearance this afternoon on CNBC's "Closing Bell" with Yankees pitcher Joba Chamberlain.
"I've been part of Sharp the last few years, me and Joba too, came here to see the electronic parts and have fun, it's great," Ortiz said to "Closing Bell" host Maria Bartiromo.

You wouldn't think they'd use the old uniform...
Uh Oh! The MLB Cover Curse begins. First Papi not Pedroia.
Cool. MLB The Show has been the best baseball game on the market the last few years even though it has had its fair share of bugs and glitches. Dustin on the cover is a plus.
Nice Pic...cant wait to play the game!
well last years cover athlete was Ryan Howard and look where his team ended up hopefully that cover jinx can work out the same for us I wouldn't complain ;-)

Papi was on the cover of MLB 06. We won the World Series in 07. So maybe it's a good curse? Haha.
Is this a pic of when he hit that homer off Betancourt in the ALCS? I love watching him flip his bat all cocky after he smacked the crap out of the ball, lol
Oh...and I have MLB 08 and Ryan Howard is on that cover. The Phillies won the WS this year, lmao
Did you see the girl who was handing Big Papi the baseballs to sign? YOWZER :-)
You wouldn't think they'd use the ROAD uniform...
curse? Ryan Howard was on last years...and I'm pretty sure he got a ring this past season.....
Umm, there's no Show curse. Keep in mind Ryan Howard was on the cover last year and he had an MVP season and the Phillies won the series.
"Uh Oh! The MLB Cover Curse begins. First Papi not Pedroia. "
What curse? Ortiz appeared on the 2006 cover and his 2006 and 2007 were probably the two best seasons of his career. He hit 54 homers in 2006 and went on to post a monstrous 2007 with a line of .332/.445/.621.
If getting a curse constitutes breaking the Red Sox single season home run record and then following that up with a season where you get on base in almost half of your at bats, then Pedroia's going to win the triple crown, a gold glove and somehow manage the Cy Young.
Let's look at a couple other recent The Show cover players:
David Wright was on it in 2007. He's since posted two phenomenal seasons, going .325/.416/.546 and having a rare 30/34 year for home runs and stolen bases.
Ryan Howard was 2008. This year he had a sagging batting average, but he led the MLB in home runs and RBIs with a 'paltry' 48 and 146 respectively. His batting average and strikeout rate aren't much to talk about in terms of any "curse" BS, considering he has always struck out a ton.
While we're on it, let's talk about the SI cover jinx. Remember when Papelbon appeared right before the playoffs? Two postseasons later and the dude still has not given up a single postseason run, earning his first ring in one of them.
Get a grip.
Big Papi is a BIG TRAITOR
the curse is for the nfl covers
