FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Red Sox hurlers Jonathan Papelbon and Brad Penny highlighted Monday's workout as both players took to the hill to pitch their first live batting practice sessions of the spring.

The Globe's Amalie Benjamin recaps all the hullabaloo that enveloped Field 3 at the Red Sox' player development complex during an otherwise routine morning workout.

What else did you miss today at the end of Edison Avenue?

  • Penny: 'I feel great' -- Fresh from his session on the mound, Penny declared his shoulder felt great and detailed his progress this spring.

  • Daily briefing -- Terry Francona adds his thoughts on the day's biggest subjects: Papelbon and Penny.

  • Rally Against Cancer -- Jon Lester and former Red Sox second baseman Mike Andrews appeared together to promote the fourth annual event that raises money for the Jimmy Fund.

And we'll wrap up Monday by giving you a glimpse of Tuesday. The Globe's Dan Shaughnessy pens a piece on J.D. Drew for tomorrow's editions and, in the video below, gives you the inside scoop from Fort Myers.
