Saturday in the Fort
FORT MYERS, Fla. -- After a couple of quiet days, David Ortiz injected some life into the morning routine this morning by talking with reporters for five minutes about his relationship with Dominican trainer Angel Presinal. Check out the entries above for all the details.
A couple other notes from the morning:
- Smoltz's group wins -- In probably the least shocking development, John Smoltz and his foursome won the 16th annual charity golf classic Friday. Taking some good-natured ribbing from Josh Beckett, Smoltz -- once reportedly described by Tiger Wood as the best golfer not on the PGA Tour -- said his group, "carried me through."
- Catching competition -- In yesterday's morning update we failed to mention that Mark Wagner is tied with Carlos Maldonado atop the catcher's daily drop contest leaderboard with no drops through 530 attempts. For those wondering, Jason Varitek has just one drop in 420 attempts. Josh Bard, in the basement after a three-drop day Thursday, joked that he's, "slacking," especially since knuckleballs don't count in the contest.
