FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Word from both sides is that there have been no substantive talks regarding a contract extension between the Red Sox and Jason Bay. But that doesn't mean that the two sides won't get together at some point.

In fact, Joe Urbon -- who is Bay's agent, despite the rumors that Scott Boras represents the left fielder -- will be in Fort Myers tomorrow. Urbon is also the agent for Takashi Saito, and was hoping to get a chance to watch his other client play. Bay has joined the Canada team for the World Baseball Classic, and is training with them.

Because the market for outfielders was established at the end of the offseason, that might lead to an opening for the sides to come together. Bay is in the final year of a four-year, $18.25 million deal. He is earning $7.5 million this season.

  1. If Boras represents Bay then let Bay walk.

  1. Have we seen enough of Jason Bay in Boston to sign him long term? But then again who else is out there who can produce what he has over his career thus far....?

  1. It's gonna be awesome when Boy Blunder lets Bay walk for nothing.

  1. He has already proved he could adjust in one of the biggest stages in pro sports. Jason also is a professional and plays the game right I'm all for a 3-4 yr 40-50 mill contract.

  1. I would like to see them wait and see what Jason and Matt Holliday do respectively and then go after which one looks more solid. Jason has done all his damage in relative obscurity and Holliday has done his damage in the friendly thin air of the rockies. I would like to see both of them for a year outside of those elements and make a decision from there. Jason hasn't been under the pressure of boston for long enough, I just think Boston should not rush into anything when Bay's representation isn't pushing for a contract extension yet.
