After being hit on the hand by a pitch today, J.D. Drew left City of Palms Park to receive X-rays, a Red Sox spokesperson said. Pittsburgh Pirates lefthanded reliever Donnie Veal plunked Drew in the fifth inning.

Drew, beset by injuries during his Red Sox tenure, has already experienced difficulty with the same back injury that kept him out most of the second half of last season.
