We should probably file this one under "Just A Rumor" for now, but it's worth passing along nonetheless.
According to Peter Gammons on ESPN.com, Manny Delcarmen, who may have a reduced role (at least for the time being) in Boston's remarkably deep bullpen, has piqued the interest of a number of teams looking to acquire pitching help.
Writes Gammons in his Insider-only column:
Several Arizona teams have expressed interest in . . . Delcarmen. Boston needs a catcher, and could use another infielder and even another outfielder.
By Arizona teams, Gammons is referring to those training there this spring, which include the Angels, Diamondbacks, Cubs, White Sox, Rockies, Royals, Brewers, A's, Padres, Giants, Mariners, and Rangers.
One other interesting note from Gammons regarding the Sox:
In his last Triple A start, Boston's Junichi Tazawa threw three balls in three innings.
Given Tazawa's excellence this spring, perhaps he's closer to being big-league ready than was first thought when the Red Sox signed the 22-year-old from Japan on Dec. 4.
