Updates: Red Sox vs. Puerto Rico

TOUGH INNING FOR ZINK (2:53, MID 7, 9-5 P.R.)
The Red Sox scored three in the sixth, but Puerto Rico came back with four in the seventh. Knuckleballer Charlie Zink had some control issues, and Puerto Rico -- featuring a single to center by old friend Alex Cora -- took advantage.

Josh Reddick robbed Yadier Molina of a home run, drifting back into the left field corner and making a leaping catch as he banged into the wall. He couldn't completely bail out McBeth, who allowed a run.

PAPELBON ROLLS (1:59, END 5, 4-2 P.R.)
Jonathan Papelbon, making his second appearance of the spring, went 1-2-3 again. Marcus McBeth is now in for Papelbon.

In his two innings, Michael Bowden allowed three runs. He felt he needed to be more assertive with selecting pitches, not always bowing to what the catcher (Josh Bard, in this case) calls.

"I'm a bulldog out there, so I throw what I want to throw, and I throw it with conviction," Bowden said. "Sometimes, if they put down a sign I don't want to throw, sometimes I agree with, I'm kind of passive with it. I'm not throwing it with the conviction that I like. If they throw down a sign and you don't want it, shake off to a sign that you want, so you do throw it with that conviction. I think that was a big part of it."

AND THE CROWD GOES WILD (1:16, TOP 4, 3-1 P.R.)
Puerto Rico is getting to Michael Bowden, and the raucous Puerto Rican crowd is chanting; someone is playing a drum, and everyone is clapping to the beat. It's fun. Felipe Lopez delivered the blow, a two-run single to right-center.

TIED UP (1:06, END 3, 1-1)
Clay Buchholz allowed a run in his two innings, hitting a batter and not looking quite as sharp as he has so far in spring training. The biggest might have been ever-reliable Jed Lowrie making an error -- a high, wide throw that pulled Chris Carter off of first base -- on the first play of the game. Michael Bowden has pitched one scorelesss inning.

Jacoby Ellsbury led off with a double for the Red Sox, and he scooted hom on Julio Lugo's single. Chris Carter also roped a single in the first, but the Sox have been quiet since then.

The crowd for today's game is a bit more vocal than usual. There are some proud, rowdy Puerto Rico fans sitting behind the visitor's dugout.
