The Sox were clearly prepared for this rainout. They had already said that if today's game were postponed, they would flip-flop Josh Beckett -- who will take the ball tomorrow -- and Brad Penny this weekend with the sudden need for a fifth starter since the postponement cost Beckett a day of rest.

So Penny will start on Saturday against the Angels, with Beckett taking the finale of the series in Anaheim, Calif.

There is another change as well. Penny will now not go down to Fort Myers, Fla., to extended spring training to pitch tomorrow. Instead he'll pitch a few simulated innings in Boston tomorrow before making his Red Sox debut on Saturday.
