Smoltz setback not considered serious

Posted by Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff April 29, 2009 10:31 PM

CLEVELAND - John Smoltz has been shut down for what looks like a "10-14" day period according to a team source.

The veteran righthander was backed off from throwing late last week and then was scheduled to throw batting practice on Thursday, but that was scratched. Smoltz might be joining the Sox in Tampa tomorrow, but for now he'll take some time off to rest his right shoulder which has been experiencing some discomfort. Manager Terry Francona first reported the setback on WEEI radio today.

  1. Too bad Javy Lopez and Julio Lugo don't have the same problems. I would like to see them both shut down for 10-14 days.
