Bay, Youkilis lead All-Star voting at their positions
First baseman Kevin Youkilis and outfielder Jason Bay are the leading vote-getters at their respective positions in the American League All-Star balloting, while second baseman and reigning AL MVP Dustin Pedroia trails his former college teammate, Texas's Ian Kinsler, by a surmountable margin at second base.
Youkilis leads the way at first base with 414,693 votes, putting him well ahead of Detroit's Miguel Cabrera, who is second at 299,597. The Yankees' Mark Teixeira is third at 295,798.
Bay, who has a 1.011 on-base-plus-slugging percentage, a .282 batting average, 13 homers and 47 RBIs, has 446,183 votes, a small edge over Texas's Josh Hamilton, who had 442,553 votes. Seattle's Ichiro Suzuki is third among outfielders with 306,453.
Kinsler, who lost his starting job to Pedroia while at Arizona State, had 514,645 votes, while Pedroia has received 426,127. Among other Red Sox, Jason Varitek is third among catchers and Mike Lowell is fifth among third basemen.
Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter, who is seeking his 10th All-Star Game berth, is the leading vote-getter overall at 664,630. Rays third baseman Evan Longoria is second in the balloting among all AL players with 664,060 total votes.
Fans can cast their votes for starters up to 25 times with the 2009 All-Star Game ballot at MLB.com and all 30 club sites until July 2 at 11:59 p.m. Starting rosters will be announced during the 2009 All-Star Game Selection Show on TBS on July 5.

206,000 people voted for J.D. Drew.
Welcome to the Apocalypse.
Hw about that Kid in Center Field? Where do we vote???
Who has a better chance of winning the AL Triple Crown? Lugo or Tek?
Who are those 206,000 people? And should they be allowed to vote in actual elections? I say no.
J.D. Drew rules.......
Wow......Morneau is not even on that list. I am pretty sure none of those guys should be ahead of Morneau. This fan voting is ludacris.
Vote at MLB.com or Redsox.com. What baffles me is that Jeter, year in, year out gets the nod and he's a crap SS, especially as the years have gone by (he wins gold Gloves despite having a poor fielding percentage...look up the numbers). Certainly there are other AL shortstops who deserve the nod over him (though not on the Sox)
I love boston red sox
Wonder who Bay will be playing for next year now that the San Diego/Yale girls dissed him. My guess he'll be in left field for the Yankees next year.
I hear Manny is 4th for NL Outfielders.
I'm glad for Youk. He started from humble beginnings as a "call-up" guy and this is well earned.
He was also consistantly voted "Most likely to punch Manny Ramirez in the face," year in and year out by teammates. My eyes are watering a little - gotta go.
Good for you, Youk!
I think it shows that there are 205,999 other people like my father, who always fills his entire AL voting card with the Red Sox starters.
Hey that is o.k. guys. Let's all get out the vote for Red Sox Nation. At the stadiums and online everyone punch our ticket and see if we can get more Sox in than any other team gets. Stuff the ballots with Only Sox players, don't vote for any other team! I voted for Ells and Nancy. If we stick to this formula we can get even Lugo and Papi in !!!! Uh......scratch the last 2. Vote up to 25 times online now.
Hey Nancy did win the All-Star MVP last year.Let us hope that with the new lineup he will have the same June that he had last year.Just vote often and only for Red Sox,don't help out these other teams !!!
Justin Morneau's not first at first? Huh?
They deserve It they are the Best I love Youk HE can hit he is the Best first basement in the MLB and he can play 3rd base when Lowell is hurt Bay is a great hitter He is ok on the field also But The rest needs TO START HITTING THE Ball
Great to see Jason Bay in first place for outfielders. It's nice to see him getting his much needed recognition. It's also great to see Youk on top.
It's a little disappointing to see Dustin Pedroia in 2nd place. Hopefully, he'll finish on top.
The 206,000 people are Red Sox fans who feel a larger loyality to the team than to baseball in general, and voted for every red sox player on the ballot.
Voting should be left to the experts.A perfect example of it is Jeters' 660 plus.Do you think for a moment had he played in Minn.,Detroit or KC,that he'd accumulate that total.......The AS Balloting is a farce,it should be left to the players, coaches and press
Gotta start a campaign to get Pedey at second base.
Gotta start a campaign to get Pedey at second base.
hilarious
Love Youk I will feel better when Bay makes up his mind about if he is going to stay or go w/ the Sox But Youk is a TRUE Red Sox player
Ortiz needs to be dropped down to AAA or traded - he's not even close to hittin the ball!!!
