  1. Sad, but they have to do this. Just clogging up the order right now.

  1. Lugo in the field + artificial turf + Penny on the mound = potential for a 2 error day.

  1. I love David Ortiz and will never forget what he has done for me as a RedSox fan since 2003.

That being said... he is just one player and not more important than the team. Until he gets his stroke back, he can't hit 3rd or play every day.

  1. WHY is Lugo in :S

  1. Ortiz should be put on the DL, sent to Pawtucket to rehab, Maybe he can get his head and mechanics back on track.

  1. It's just because we're facing a tough lefty today. I'm sure Francona will have Papi back in the three spot tomorrow. He put Lugo back at short today.

  1. This could simply be Tito giving Lowell some "time off" without losing his bat. Easy to do with Youk crossing the corner, inserting Baily at 1st.
We'll just have to wait and see.

  1. Well, I guess sitting DO against lefties is a start. But the bigger question remains ....can a team win a division with a DH platoon of David Ortiz and Jeff Bailey? Alas, the question is not whether Ortiz should hit against righties or hit seventh, its whether he should hit at all.

  1. oh my goodness how dare they. david ortiz has done so much for this franchise. its a shame. ortiz should hit 3rd until he retires just because of his past............

  1. Looks like a better line-up to me!!:) I have also been hearing that we might get Nick Johnson from the Nats for Manny Delcarmen. I think it would be a good trade. Give time for Papi to work on his swing. Give him time to think it out. Plus, Nick is doing great this year so far. He is actullay good when he is healthy. PAPI I STILL HAVE HOPE FOR U! GO AND THINK IT OUT! YOU WILL BE BACK IN NO TIME!

  1. First, I thought that Tito said that Green was going to be in there again today. I can't imagine any good reason to play Lugo over Green right now. Second, has Theo been looking at how much it would take to pry Papa Jack away from the Astros? Given the success he's had with Ortiz over the years, that might turn out to be our biggest acquisition of the summer.

  1. Why not give Green another day at short? He makes errors, but right now his bat is better than Lugo's. Lugo has a day where he'll get a bunch of hits, then his bat goes cold.

  1. Any way they can give Lugo a much bigger glove (I'm talking like novelty item big)? Or build a brick wall around him at short? just a couple of thoughts...

  1. Batters 1 - 5 is how the lineup should start for at least the next month. It's so sad that I see Ortiz as an automatic out at this point. Or I just pray for him to get lucky...

Why can't Ortiz bat 6th or 7th? Why? I think batting 7th with a .195 average would be much easier on the psyche than batting 3rd with a .195 average.

Yesterday was classic. In the seventh -- 3 or 4 in a row -- base hit, base hit, base hit. Then Ortiz gets up -- 'can-a-corn' to short left. Right after that, Youkilis gets up -- 3-run BOMB to Lansdowne. If Ortiz still believes he should bat 3rd, then he's narcissistic.

  1. Bruinsinruins asks a good question... just putting in some random bat off the bench gives you one more hit a game, which may win a game here and there, but Ortiz hitting great gives you the best chance for the division. There's more upside to getting him hitting again and they seem to think sending him out there is the way to do it.

Guess that means we should thaw out Ted Williams and put him in the lineup too based on past performance. Nobody has a birthright to anything in this world. This is the Big Leagues, not T-Ball. Ortiz is done. Everyone knows it. Lost bat speed cannot be fixed. You can try dropping him in the order and see if he can hit his back into the 3 hole but that's hoping against hope. Can't trade him. Time to eat the money and cut him.

  1. All Lugo had to do was give Terry Francona a dirty look, snipe about him to the media and he's right back in the lineup doing what he does best.

    Preventing the Sox from winning.

    Way to go, Francona.

  1. When Nick Green has a higher slugging than David Ortiz, its time for him to take a ride on the pine.
