Tonight's lineups

Posted by David Lefort, Boston.com Staff May 10, 2009 04:58 PM

No Carlos Pena for the Rays, and still no Kevin Youkilis for the Sox. J.D. Drew steps back in for Rocco Baldelli and Nick Green takes Julio Lugo's spot in the batting order. Daniel Bard and his powerful fastball are active for tonight after being brought up from Pawtucket, where he managed a 1.13 ERA in 11 outings. A roster spot was cleared for Bard when the team designated left-handed reliever Javier Lopez for assignment.

Here are the full lineups for tonight's game, per Adam Kilgore:

2. Dustin Pedroia, 2B
3. David Ortiz, DH
4. Jason Bay, LF
5. Mike Lowell, 3B
6. J.D. Drew, RF
7. Jeff Bailey, 1B
8. Jason Varitek, C
9. Nick Green, SS

Rays

3. Evan Longoria, 3B
4. Pat Burrell, DH
5. Willy Aybar, 1B
6. Ben Zobrist, RF
7. Akinori Iwamura, 2B
8. Jason Bartlett, SS

  1. Pedroia at short? Mistake I assume... or have the Sox gotten that desperate for defense in the 6 spot?

  1. Is Pedroia really playing shortstop with Green playing second or is that a typo?

  1. Hold up.

Dustin Pedroia at shortshop and Nick Green at second base? That's gotta be a typo, right?

  1. It's such a relief to see Nick Green in at SS. He'll never be a Gold Glove winner but he's a HUGE improvement over Lugo!!

  1. Looks like Nancy has lost her 5 spot permanantly. Lowell is hitting 5th tonight against a righty Garza and Lowell doesn't hit Garza well( not that any Sox does) I believe Tuesday will see a new era in Sox history this will be the new permanent lineup when Youk gets back 1Ellsbury,2 Pedy 3Youk,4Bay,5Lowell,6drew,7green,8Tek and 9Lugo at D.H
