Ortiz homers, Sox score four more (End 6, 8-0)

Posted by Julian Benbow, Globe Staff June 6, 2009 08:46 PM

David Ortiz wrapped a 2-1 Kris Benson pitch around the right-field pole for his second home run of the season.

He's 2 for 2 on the night with a walk, and he's reached base in his past four plate appearances going back to his late-game RBI single last night.

After the homer, Benson made more trouble for himself walking Jason Varitek and Rocco Baldelli. After Nick Green flied out to center, Dustin Pedroia was able to cash in with an RBI single to right.

Pedroia would later score (along with Baldelli) on a drive to the left-field corner by Kevin Youkilis, hustling around third and taking advantage of Ian Kinsler bobbling the throw in from left, making it a four-run inning for the Sox.

  1. Dang... did Els have a chance to catch that double? Oh well, still a hell of a performance!

  1. This could be it, ladies and gentleman. Ortiz could just be finding his way out of this slump.

And Jon "I don't think I'm pitching that bad" Lester is mighty fine.
