Sox draft Fuentes, Wilson
With the 28th pick of the draft, the Red Sox chose center fielder Reymond Fuentes from Fernando Callejo High School in Puerto Rico. Fuentes is an athletic, speedy player and a cousin of New York Mets center fielder Carlos Beltran.
“He’s going to be a good player — not because he’s [related], just judging by the talent he has,” Beltran told the New York Daily News Sunday. “He’s very disciplined. For being young, he loves to work. That’s what impresses me the most.”
In the second round, the Sox selected righty Alex Wilson from Texas A&M. He's 6-foot-1-inch, 205 pounder and is two years removed from Tommy John surgery during his redshirted freshman year. Wilson was born in Saudi Arabia and, if he makes the big club, would be the second Saudi Arabian major leaguer ever. San Diego Padre Craig Stansberry is the other.
Wilson transferred from Winthrop to the Aggies after being named All-Big South in his freshman and sophomore years.

He is a Puertorican pride!!!! He is humble! He is a Natural Player!!! Go Reymond make us proud!!!!
What little tape they showed on him he looked like a burner, similiar to Ellsbury.
Can you please clarify w/regards to Wilson's nationality? Craig Stansberry isn't exactly "Saudi Arabian" - he was born there when his parents were on business, live there a month, but was raised in the US. I expect the same is true of Alex Wilson - that he is an American born in SA, not a "Saudi Arabian." I'd love to see some actual Arab players in MLB. For some reason, they seem to like to give country of birth as a player's nationality. This is really pretty inaccurate and a strange representation.
If Wilson's parents raised him in Saudi Arabia, I'd retract my comment (certainly there can be white SAudi Arabians). But I suspect that's not the case.
I like the first round pick, but do you really think picking a Saudi Arabian kid, who had Tommy John surgery his Freshman year of college, is the way to go in round two?
Are the Bruins going to draft an African living in the the Sahara dessert, who had a yak's knee inserted into his leg after a tragic incident where he was thrown from a camel when he was nine years old?
How about the Patriots drafting a 127 pound French noseguard who once finished the Boston marathon after soiling himself as he ascended heartbreak hill?
Maybe the Celtics could pick up a pigme back-up center in round two who got his leg bitten off by a ferocious jungle mouse!
@Brady Please get a clue, then shutup.
