Nomar is here
Tonight's Oakland A's designated hitter is at Fenway Park, and that is notable because it happens to be Nomar Garciaparra, at one point one of the most popular Red Sox players of all-time. Garciaparra will make his first Fenway Park appearance tonight since he was traded at the 2004 deadline.
At about 4:40 p.m., Garciaparra emerged from the visitor's dugout and walked behind the batting cage. He walked by a line of fans and smiled and waved at them. Rocco Baldelli embraced him. When Garciaparra reached the Red Sox dugout, he hugged Jason Varitek. They walked down the dugout steps together. Garciaparra was off to hold a news conference, which we'll recap later.
"There's a lot that goes into a being a really good player that maybe isn't always the fairest," Sox manager Terry Francona said. "But he's a good kid, and he'll always be a good kid. I hope they give him a great ovation. And then I hope he hits into a double play."

Yes he should be given a standing O.
He gave it all when he was here and then some.
Nomar was the best. I wish he'd never left.
There's another side. He was sulking, immature, selfish when he left. And, he was on the juice. So, he was not perfect.
Classy reception for Nomar by the fans - way to go Fenway!
What a great reception by the fans - and an emotional moment. One I'll never forget. Thanks for the memories Nomar - this one included.
i love the guy he was a boston great
Great great reception for Nomar by the fans at Fenway tonight. Wonderful to see.
Welcome back Nomar - you EARNED the standing-O that you got tonight!
Rod, you never left a job over something, anything that may have made you pissy? Wus.
He was on the juice for sure, until he met Mia Hamm in 2004. That's when his career went down the drain. A class act though
