Pedroia back in lineup, says wife went into labor

Posted by Adam Kilgore, Globe Staff July 7, 2009 04:06 PM

Dustin Pedroia provided an update today on the status of his pregnant wife Kelli, whom he said went into labor yesterday (she is seven weeks from her due date) and was hospitalized. Doctors were able to stop the labor and stabilize her. She is currently resting at the hospital.

"She's a lot tougher than I am," said Pedroia, who missed last night's game to be with his wife but is in tonight's lineup.

Pedroia said this afternoon that he got a call from general manager Theo Epstein last night and received text messages from teammates sending their thoughts.

He also said that his wife told him to play tonight and not to worry about her, though the Red Sox second baseman acknowledged he has been calling her every five minutes.

"Obviously I'm thinking about it," Pedroia said.

Here are tonight's lineups from Fenway Park, where it's currently pouring buckets ...

  1. I hope that's not the lineup that Tito turns in since Both Youkilis & Bates are listed at 1st base! It happened earlier in the year with the Rays.

  1. Did the A's #7 hitter change his last name(from Cust) or is that "K" spelling error in tribute to what he does 75% of the time

  1. I'm sorry, but why Aaron Bates??? I understand Bailey's on the DL, but a hitter batting under .200 at the Triple-A level SHOULD NOT be called up to the majors. There has to be someone else in Pawtucket that the Red Sox could have called up to fill the roster spot.

  1. Is it so tough to take a minute to make sure you spell the names of those you're writing about correctly?

    It's Kelli Pedroia.

    And Jack Cust.

Ten seconds. You could find this all out in ten seconds with the aid of "Google".

  1. Going to be a little crowded at 1st base tonight with both Youk and Bates over there. Should we assume that Youk will actually be at 3rd?

  1. read Lowrie moved to 60 day dl list, and Baily on 30 day. with Lowell out problems seem to be adding up. Hope they (red sox) are not forced into giving a pitcher away to add another bat.
