Smoltz has a tough fourth
John Smoltz's Fenway debut as a Red Sox?
Not so good.
Smoltz had shut out the A's over the first three innings, but he had trouble in the fourth.
An RBI single by Nomar Garciaparra, a two-run double off the wall by second baseman Mark Ellis, and an RBI single by Adam Kennedy, all were part of a four-run, five-hit inning. Granted, Kurt Suzuki's bunt that died and stayed fair didn't help matters. Smoltz seemed to be catching too much of the plate with his pitches. He had thrown 69 pitches through four innings.
It's 4-0 A's.

whats this clown got that poor buckholtz doesn't smoltz is a shell of himself just watch old film of him you can't just chalk up a loss every 5th fday cuz this guy once was great its clear he isn't now what does poor clay need to do to get a chance hang in there clay this guy will pitch himself out of the rotation
TRADE FOR A BAT ALREADY YOU FUTILE OFFENCIVE JOKE
Smoltz is too old to be effective we need to bring up bucholz and why are we callin up a 1st baseman thats hitting .190 in AA instead of Lars Anderson are we trying to give up first before the All-Star break? Our lineup right now makes the Nationals look good
Nice updates. When do you say that the product that Epstein assembled is lacking? Again what is Oakland's payroll as compared to Boston's? Put the blame where it should be --Epstein? Bates?????? You an All Star???
Get Smoltz out of there!
Smoltz is terrible...why can't they just bring Bucholz back and can him and can Dicek? What's happening with Theo these days?!
Enough alrteady with the Smoltz experiment! And who helped set the line up for Tito, the A's. This is a nightmare. Ellsbury ,Lugo 1, 2. Merry Christmas A's! Theo get some hitters please. We look like a t ball team lately. Why are we the only team that has to rest players every other day practically. It's just ridiculous and by the way it doesn't help us as the scores dictate!!!!
