ST LOUIS -- Though he's toted George Kottaras's backup glove here with him for any catcher lucky enough to catch him tonight, Red Sox starting pitcher Tim Wakefield said he was told by AL manager Joe Maddon that he would be held back in tonight's game in case of extra innings. Josh Beckett said he was also told he'd be held back until late.

"I'm just happy to be here," said Wakefield. "If I pitch, great. If not, it's not a big deal ... I'm not going to be upset either way."
