Drew out until Wednesday
J.D. Drew's sore left groin struck again last night. In the eighth inning, Drew told manager Terry Francona he might not be able to finish the game. This was at a point when Clay Buchholz had been pressed into service as a pinch runner.
"I said, 'Look at the the scorecard. You have to,' " Francona said. "We already put a pitcher into run. That's all we got to do, put somebody out in [expletive] right. It would have been like a circus."
Drew ended up blasting a two-run home run in the ninth inning. Drew's sore groin will keep him out tonight and tomorrow. On Monday, the Sox have an offday. On Tuesday, the Sox are scheduled to face Toronto lefthander Ricky Romero, a game Francona likely would have sat Drew for, anyway. So Drew will get four days off to rest his groin.
For tonight, his replacement will be another new face for the Sox. Brian Anderson, whom the Red Sox acquired when they shipped Mark Kotsay to White Sox, was recalled from Pawtucket to replace Josh Reddick, optioned back to Pawtucket. Francona and the Sox were concerned Reddick, 22, was starting to sit too many games, thus stifling his development.
"That being said," Francona said, "I thought Reddick did a great job."
Anderson has been a spark for Pawtucket. He slugged .515 in 97 at-bats and made his biggest impact with his defense. Pawtucket manager Ron Johnson often tells Francona that Jonathan Van Every is the best defensive player he has ever managed. “He said, ‘I never thought I’d tell you this, but this guy is every bit as good as Van Every.’ That’s RJ’s way of giving this kid a big compliment.”
Francona does not know Anderson well, but he has always followed his career. Anderson, like Francona, played for the University of Arizona. "He's got some juice in his bat," Francona said.

shocker
please red sox nation get behind me drew is a big fairie playing only for a pay check. he is the biggest disgrace to ever wear a red sox uniform he has no pride and is daring the sox to designate him for assignment. put reddick or anderson in right field and send this fairie on his way let him pull his fake groin trick on someone else.if you think something is going to change in the next 2 years they are not. once a fairie always a fairie drew you are a DISCRACE!!!!!
typical soft Drew....24 man roster, pitcher pitch-running and nobody left on the bench in a 4-2 game against the team you are essentially tied for a playoff spot and he has the balls to tell the manager late in the game he cant finish. I am so sick of this guy!!!!!

Unbelievable. This guy CANNOT stay in the line up. What about playing a little through pain? How in the world does one ask out of a game like last night, late in the game with no great alternative in right? That was a nice homer and all, but, come on, man!
"Francona and the Sox were concerned Reddick, 22, was starting to sit too many games, thus stifling his development." If that's true, why not let him play instead of calling up Anderson and sending down Reddick while Drew is out?
It would appear Victor Martinez' energy and enthusiasm have yet to rub off on JD Drew. He must have either the lowest threshold of pain in the world or be one of the biggest malingerers. I agree it's discouraging to know he still gets a pay check that's a lot more than he deserves.
I have been fed up with Nancy Drew since he got here. he is so bored with making 13 million a year. The dude hits the majority of his hits and HRs when they little matter. His arm and fielding is average at best..can you ever remember him keeping a HR from going out in Fenway or any other park for that matter. Theo what a bust with Lugo and Drew. Theo gets an A - for Pawtucket development and a C- for his trades.

We Have Many "Liabilites" on this Red Sox Team.
"David Ortiz, and Jason Viertek Can't hit their "Weight. Tito Is Right About J.D. Drew. (I Only wonder why it took so long to Realize it.
Mike Lowell Gives it everything he's Got,but Like Ortiz there is Now way He will ever Score from frist base on a "Double"
Those little things Make a "Big Difference" in a Lot of Ball Games.
Not Being able to Score frome Second Base with two Outs and a Base hit to the Outfield.
These things have cost the "Sox" Dearly this Year, and will remain to Hurt the team.
Its Time To Look at "The Wealth Of Talent".
Let's See What some of these Young Men With Fresh Legs and a "Hunger" to Make it in the Major Leauges
Its Time that some of that "Wealth of Talent" start being used and See Just what they have got. (Certianly it can't get any worse!!!!!)
