Jonathan Papelbon won't pitch tonight after slipping in the bullpen last night while warming up.

Papelbon referred to the problem, which he described as tightness in his lower back, as a "minor thing" and told the Boston Herald he doesn't expect the problem to linger.

“This is just a one-day thing,” he told the Herald's John Tomase. “I’ll be back tomorrow. They’re going to give me the night instead of pushing the envelope. We’re up six games [in the wild card race] right now. There’s no reason for me to go out there and push the envelope when I’m going to be pushed a lot more.

“It’s a little minor thing and we’re going to stay on the side of overly cautious. Now if we were tied in the race, it would be a different story. You’ve got to do what you’ve got to do.”
