Rehabbing Red Sox righthander Daisuke Matsuzaka threw 89 pitches over 6 2/3 innings in his start last night for Single A Salem in the Sox affiliate's semifinal round playoff game against Winston-Salem, the White Sox Single A club.

Matsuzaka didn't appear to have control problems as he walked just one batter while striking out seven minor leaguers, and 61 of his 89 pitches were for strikes. Dice-K gave up just three hits on the night, and one unearned run.

"He came in here and got his work done and it was just like we drew it up," Manager Chad Epperson of Salem said after last night's game. "This is exactly what we wanted and now we can send him on his way back to Boston."

Matsuzaka has been on the disabled list since June 21 due to right shoulder strain. He has made three minor league starts during his current rehab assignment, the latest of which before last night was a 67-pitch outing for the Pawtucket Red Sox on Friday night. Dice-K has an 8.23 ERA in the majors this season, going 1-5 for Boston in eight starts.
