MLB and the Yankees proudly announced that Jay-Z and Alicia Keys would perform Empire State of Mind before Game 1 tonight. It's Derek Jeter's at-bat song.

Then yesterday, MLB issued a release that said. "The World Series performance featuring Jay-Z and Alicia Keys has been rescheduled to take place in Thursday's pre-game ceremonies, which airs on FOX starting at 7:30 p.m. Eastern. The performance was changed due to the forecast for inclement weather for Wednesday, October 28. Staging for the performance could adversely impact the field if it is wet, creating damaged and unsafe playing conditions."

OK. Sounds plausible. However ...

Craig Calcaterra of NBC Sports reported today that Mr. Z remains scheduled to perform at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus, Ohio, tonight.

Calcaterra writes: "My guess: Someone here in Columbus told Jay-Z's people that they'd sue him for breach of contract if he didn't show up for tonight's show and he begged Major League Baseball to let him move his Alicia Keys thing to Game 2."

This would never happen with the Dropkick Murphys. That much we know.
