Two items of interest related to the Red Sox on this sunny Sunday:

• Now that Manny Acta has been named the manager of the Cleveland Indians, Red Sox bench coach Brad Mills is perhaps a little closer to getting the Houston job. He, interim manager Dave Clark and retread Phil Garner are the three finalists now that Acta is out.

Acta was reportedly offered the Houston job, which doesn't speak well for what they think of Clark. So the choice could come down to Garner or Mills.

• Japanese high school LHP Yusei Kikuchi decided to take a pass on the majors for now. He had met with a number of teams, including the Red Sox. “I don’t think I have what it takes to compete at the world level yet,” Kikuchi said at a press conference.

Presumably, Kikuchi then went out and threw a 400-pitch bullpen.
