Hideki Matsui's solo home run in the sixth inning gave the Yankees a 2-1 lead. An RBI single by pinch hitter Jorge Posada made it 3-1 in the eighth inning.

Pedro Martinez leaves charged with three runs over six innings. A.J. Burnett gave up one over seven and now the Yankees will ask Mariano Rivera for a six-out save.
